been over ten years

has been over 10 years since I tramp'd a creek and hooked a steelie
(crippled with two shot hips)
\
Both were replaced this year and I'm stable to walk again
(I was an **** idiot to wait so long!!

off I went yesterday to see if I could find any fish.
which I did!!
a small cut with a few  fish all to myself!!!
...I frothed the water for a couple hours to get three bites I saw happen(two misses and one hook-up)

here's what I discovered on the hook-up, my knot tying skills STILL SUCK

skunk'd or not, it was great to be out

    Good for you, man!

Take back your mobility and squeeze some more enjoyment out of your trips around the sun.

    Better fishing next time.

Awesome! Glad you were able to at least hook up. That is half of the excitement. Don’t beat yourself up too much on the hook tying, happens to all of us that suck at hook tying! Work on your knots while off of the water. Remember to lube and push the knot together before tightening it down. Friction is what causes most to fail, unless coming completely untied. Those steelies have small teeth too, so unless hooked perfectly, your line is going to end up getting nicked up by some teeth. Doesn’t take much for these beasts to break a nicked up 4-6# line. Part of the game and not on you. Check your line often for nicks.

Like Genie I made my first trek to the tribs in around 10 years Wednesday.  Did manage to land 1 steelhead.  Not good for me.  Low and clear water.  Maybe I'll go back up if my old body holds up.  lol

    I am envious,
All I can do anymore is sit on the wall and wait for a very dumb fish to hit my fly.  Yep, I'm still tossing flys but my days are few.  I always need someone to help me with my chair.  But , , , my knots hold  LOL

It's been a few years for me to fish for steelhead. I understand your recovery, genieman77,
after surgery.  I had my second total knee replacement three years ago. I'm ready to get back in the game, ha  It's good to see some of us old-timers still posting!

changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes....nothing remains quite the same

Man, we're all getting olddddd.   I haven't been out on the creeks since before Covid.   I'll probably never fish Four or Seven Mile Creek again.  Maybe I can find a spot on 12 or 16 to get a few casts in, if they ever get some rain.  Getting old s*cks.
