Is that a fisher? If so I hope your stand is nowhere near your chicken coop!

He was looking at me trying to decide if I was edible when I squeaked him in to me LOL. I got a pretty decent video of it
Stand is 400yds or so from the coop. I've had pictures in the past of them in the backyard around the bee hives less than 70yds from the coop. If it becomes a problem I'll deal with it then.
We only see them a couple times a year on the cameras

So I heard squirrels, last night. Then a high and tight 9 walked to 6 yards super strong for next year. I thought as I shaked if your thinking hes not for you. Great buck . I passed if he lives awesome! If someone kills him I hope there pumped! I was, but I wasn't super tempted tho,...

They don't get bigger if you don't pass them.  Myself, I am happy with a nice 3.5 yr old.  I do pass on the decent 2.5's.
Took out the video camera yesterday and sat in the tree I shot my buck out of earlier this year and only saw a lone doe right at last light.
Camera card, after sitting for a week, only a few doe on it.  Not much action, that time of year.

Yea that deer was extremely small body i think I could of been 1.5? Idk but either way I got bigger things to target. Went ducking this morning on a whim. Didn't expect this not bad for early season locals. All decoyed within 30. Tomorrow the sky busters will be out

Re: 2021/22 archery season 2021/10/18 12:26:14 (permalink)
Took the flintlock up to the big woods for bear doe Saturday morning. Sat at camp till about one then the rain passed. Decided to spend the afternoon walking the maze of gas well roads behind camp. Made it about half a mile from camp caught movement. Was a beautiful 10 pt about 30 yds off the road I was walking. Walked another 100 yds and on the other side of the road another nice buck stands up. This time a tall narrow 8 pt. Both bucks simply turned around and walked away.

At this time I am questioning if I brought the right equipment with me lol. Continued walking with little action till about 4 pm when I stumbled upon a small doe. Gave her a pass waiting for mom to come out but she never did.

About 5 pm I decided to track back to area with a fresh clear cut to see if anything will come out of the near by thicket before dark, as I crest the hill about 100 yds from where I want to set up. I see something big and black about 150 yds up the road on the edge, it's a good sized bear quartered away from me going into the thicket I was going to watch. I snapped off a quick shot with the flintlock, the bear flies into the thicket. I take a second to get myself together and begin to fumble through my pockets for my speed loader n bullet starter. As I finish putting the bullet in place with the ramrod, The bear come back out and sits in the middle of the road! I quick search for my pan powder but couldn't get it loaded fast enough before the bear walks away.

I went up to my shot location to confirm it was a clean miss and took a look to where the bear entered to see there was no way I was following him without bouncing him out.

Hoping to get another opportunity end of this week.

Good luck fellas.  Would have been a good morning to be sitting in a stand.  38F here at my house, clear and calm.
On the way to kids' dek hockey game last night, deer were everywhere out in yards, fields, etc.  Saw one nice 2.5 yr old right next to the road under an apple tree and in a different yard, a small buck licking a branch with a doe not too far away.  Getting to be that time...now if I can just get my kids out there.....

Got out Friday and Saturday after a week and a half of life getting in the way. Drew a blank Friday. Seen a small basket rack 8 Saturday morning and 5 does in the afternoon. Hung a rut stand Saturday in between hunts in an area I always wanted to hang a stand. It will be a hellacious drag if I do get one there though.

Alot of nice bucks are starting to be killed, I personally know of 3 from Fri Saturday. I hunted a funnel iv killed 2 bucks in over the years. Friday evening nothing. Yesterday evening I had a nice 7 come threw cruising at 50ish. Had I just stood up I would of seen him coming i thought I heard walking in the field. But just assumed it was chipmunks lol. Well I got a decent look at him appeared to be a 3.5 maby very big body. It happened so fast and I kinda blew it but o well. If I had him at 35 I'd of probably shot em. I should have good videos of him on a camera to know forsure what he's sporting. I was happy to see a deer lol. I know hunting that spot im likely to not see any but to cross blocks they have to go past me. 6 or so years of history has proven this time after time. Its only a matter of time ones gonna die to my arrow.

If you can handle the wind, this afternoon will probably be good and tomorrow looks exceptional.  Hopefully one of my kids will want to hit the woods tonight or tomorrow after school.
I have killed some big bucks on post front, steady wind days just like today.  Usually they were 10 or more degrees colder though with spitting snow/sleet.  With the extended warmth and humidity we have had, I think this is some good medicine for the deer woods and activity.  If my kids don't want to go, I may take the camera and climb a tree again....

Tuesday evening i got into an area of doe bedding around 130pm with the wind and rain. 3pm a doe got up around 45 yards fed around and wondered off. 330pm I seen a buck cruising my way. He was at 25yards no shot. He proceeded to get downwind. Blew 5 times and ran straight to me at 15 yards still no shot. It was very thick. I believe well I'm certain it was the 9pt I passed up first week. His pass is over lol. 615ish I stood up to take a **** I look to my downwind side theres the big 7 straight behind me. He got me . Never blew but he smelt me and wondered off.

This weather sucks!! Today looks horrible and tomorrow slightly better. Of course Sunday looks good.

Long range is for highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s beginning mid next week which is when my rutcation starts. I am liking that if the rain would go away.

Rain wasn't bad in 2D. Did my first all day sit of the year, saw two different 4 pts and passed on a 12 inch wide 7 pt. My son was about 300 yds away, he passed on a 4 pt half rack, only deer he saw all day. I put some ever calm on a tree near his stand yesterday, he said the buck came right to that tree and was licking the ever calm and wouldn't leave. Stuck around for about 20 minutes. That is a first for me.

My camera in that location really blew up the last week, I have 15 different bucks, with a couple good eight points showing up in daylight and some smaller bucks chasing a doe this past Friday. Back at it tomorrow.

Hunted Saturday morning till 11 didn't see anything. Got back to a new area iv yet to hunt this year a 2pm 245pm I was on stand. At 4pm I seen a buck to my left. It was the big 7 as luck would have it he walked right to me. We have meet for our last time. I shot at 35yards and absolutely smoked him he hopped across the creek and fell over. At 410 I was walking out awaiting my boys with the deer cart. My 2021 buck tag was filled and it was a no Brainer. I'll crop pics and post.

Decent camera pull tonight.  Bucks every day, just different sizes...probably 15/16 different ones over 3 weeks.  Several shooters for me.

This one I had on video from tonight, from my stand that is 20 yds from the trail cam above:
Messing with him snort wheezing

I have video of him walking broadside at 20 yds after this one, just didn't post it.  He came in to check out 2 doe that were by my stand.  Nothing beats live bait.  Actually had my bow this time hoping for a turkey (long shot bear too) or a yote but the turks were a no show.  Did have a couple yotes on this trail cam during daylight hrs.

Another great morning. 23 degrees and cruising bucks. I sat the same stand that I killed two days ago looking for a doe or turkey. Saw 7 different bucks and 5 of them were three up legal. Only one was before 10:30. 5 of them were between 11 and when I climbed down at 1:30. Mid day movement can be great this time of the year.

Went out today till noon hoping for the right doe or a turkey. Only seen one scraggly 4 point at 11 that was trailing a fawn, lol. Hot one day, cold the next. So goes the rut.
