Time for Presque Isle Smallmouths?

When do you guys start fishing the bay for smallies? Do you wait for the right water temp or start at ice out? Over in the westren basin the smallies will start to spawn around 45 degrees. What temp do they come into the bay?

Thanks,

Well you could try April, and depending on the water temps on the lake. 50 degrees and its a go, and they will show up in Thompsons Bay first along the bars!

    45-50.

The bay will get there before the lake does. So if the bay is reading 48, the lake may still be in the lower 40s.

I've caught smallmouth in the bay within 1 week of ice out. It gets better around mid to late April like most have mentioned. May is all out heaven, smallmouths and largemouths just about any way you want.
