Give me all your moneys

I guess since we opened the can on another thread, might as well have it's own thread.

Anyone recommend Motley Fool or Zack's analysis paid tools or find they can usually pick winners from other research?

Q4 results of companies being reported in one heck of a curve ball with the covid surges.  Anyone looking to bet on what companies can rebound in the next few months/years?  Covid had many huge winners in the market and with hindsight, many could be easily predictable.  I'd have to say travel (especially Porktown's Fishing Shack) and service industries are going to rebound and have some business.  Disney?  Cruise ships?  Hotel chains?  Airlines?  Crude oil?  Chain restaurants?  Suppliers for those industries?

Obviously an eye on Biden.  They have a habit of picking winners and losers.  It would be nice to be able to see what stocks those in Congress are buying...

Travel - like cruising will come back along with the airlines and other vacation services.
Dont expect it to happen quick though- till most everyone here and elsewhere is inoculated to the point that travelers feel safe again.

The US energy sector will be in great flux for some time to come with foreign oil IMHO taking a rise over time.

Firearm and ammo sales will soar in the short term as will their stocks.

Real estate in low tax states will continue to rise and will fall in high tax areas.

Med stocks are a good bet for a while but will tend to level after the initial influx of  fed dollars.

It doesn’t matter if any are left. Stores will refill their shelves and the stores are the customers of the gun and ammo companies.

6.2 million new gun owners will need ammo for a long time.

I was in a small gun store yesterday looking for some odd duck (.240 and .257 Weatherby) ammo figuring that since none was available on the internet, this would be a good place to look. They had a sign on their door that read “No ammunition sales without a gun purchase.”

BTW, they had one box of dusty .257, but it was in 120 grain and with the rate of twist in my rifle’s barrel, I need 100 grain or less, ideally 87. The box was $100.

The real reason why the Keystone XL pipeline was killed.....for now.  The powers that be don't give a fluff about the Indian land (oops, native people's) or the environment....all they care about is payback for who go them where they are....

Look for who owns a BUNCH of Canadian National Railway and BNSF Railway....

Shipping tar sands oil via trucks or rail is still dirtier and more dangerous than through a pipeline....

I was thinking about pointing this out a few weeks ago, when someone was pointing out what a good old trustworthy guy old Warren is, but I thought it may be too much reality for some on this forum to deal with.

In the last few months I've seen more online auctions for guns, ammo and reloading supplies than I can remember. Hard for me to imagine the quantity ov some ov these sales that have been going on. They were all within 75 miles ov Slippery Rock. Some people must horde and collect for a lifetime.

Did get a lifetime supply ov commercial 12-16 gallon trash bags and a new (inbox) expensive toilet among a bunch ov new hardware and tools. Have my eyes on another this weekend

Son sold 600 more #'s ov lead today.

Lord, I hope they give us something to haul soon - our frac sand trains dried up months ago, the drill pipe loads are long gone, the only coal we move got slowed way down...

Yesterday the owners (investment firm) told us we need to cut 3% operating expense across the board...

Luckily scrap metal and building materials are still doing ok.

Yeah I hope so also. My brother got laid off a couple of days after Christmas as a cost cutting measure with only a slim chance of getting called back

I remember barge after barge waiting to get through lock 3 on the Allegheny in the 60's--70's. The trains on rt. 28 side of the river where plenty also. Those days are long gone.

Or just Berkshire stock if you want to tie in the railroads too.

There was a fantastic series on the History Channel called “The Men Who Built America.” Part of it focused on shipping oil on rail vs. pipeline during the Getty era.

Same story, different people selling it in a different way. History repeats itself

Anytime! Just checked my area for ammo and not much listed at the moment but can change any time. This one doesn't have much but is 20 mins. from me and 3 minutes from one of my sons places.

On a lot of the auctioneers web sites clicking on view photo gallery only shows a portion of what's available. Click to where you get too "bid now" add 100 photos per page to make things easier.

I guess since we opened the can on another thread, might as well have it's own thread.
Anyone recommend Motley Fool or Zack's analysis paid tools or find they can usually pick winners from other research?

Well, there is Reddit WSB (wall street bets)  I bought 1 share of Game Stop at $89  for spite on Tues. and it's $400-ish.
The EV space is hotly overvalued and volatile. Tread carefully.
I got the Motley Fool 3yr. subscription in Jan of 2019 after that big 20% correction we had at the end of 2018. The first recommendation I got was Nvidia and it tanked. Now I'm up 195%. 2nd was Shopify and it tanked. Now I'm up 630% and cashed in some shares to buy a vehicle.  3rd was Okta +273%. and so on. I don't buy every recommendation such as their newest which is Airbnb. I never did buy Tesla which was their first pick in Jan 2020 and is now up 900%.
You receive a recommendation twice a month. For 2020 and compared against the S&P 500, they outperformed  in 19 of their 24 picks. If you had bought Lukin Coffee, you would have been down 95%.
It seems most socks they feature are tech stocks with the highest concentration of those in the volatile SaS sector. It's not uncommon to see these stocks rise 20% then fall 30% then rise. So, you really have to have the stomach for those big drops and think long term. Also, always take some profits when it outperforms and put it away to use after major stock corrections like the one we had in March of this year. Since April,  I'm up 100%+ on GE, Boeing and Apple. Sold half my poison on GE and BA to replenish my cash.
It always pays to do your own DD and not be afraid to cut a stock loose and swallow the losses.
My friend uses Zack's and is outperforming the S&P using some of their picks.  Zack's has better tools for research and seems to recommend safer, less volatile bets like Levi, Corsair and SW Airlines.
If you don't have time for DD, there is always QQQ or SPY (or SCHD etf which pays a monthly dividend) or a little of each.
Or just buy Apple and hold.  Buy on Major market dips.

It will be interesting to see how the Reddit WSB is handled.  I believe the SEC and others are looking into it, to verify everything is legal.  I wouldn't doubt that Congress acts on it, if it is all legal, to limit or eliminate it.  If they can artificially manipulate, they can accidentally crash...

This Gamestop thing all started when one person did his homework and found that the stock was actually undervalued. Then a wall street firm put out the word to hedge funds to short the stock causing it to plummet and investors to sell. So the guy went public to tell his story. IMO, this is legal basically because there is full disclosure on a public message board.

Today on Robinhood, investors were not allowed to buy shares of GME. They can only sell shares of GME. How's that for manipulation?

Regardless of who goes down on this, if it is the Wall St. firm that put out word, the hedge funds that short sold, or those on the Reddit end, if it becomes a common occurrence, I would be sure as heck that something is going to be done about it.  VIX and other volatility indicators only go as high as they have prior to major adjustments/crashes.  Who knows, we may be in the beginning stages of a crash right now.
