NASCAR Picks of the Week 2021

Gentlemen,
Am I doing this again this year?  Who's in?  If we get enough I'll re print the rules (some changes from last year) and we can get it going.  Daytona Feb 14.  Practice picks on the clash Feb 9.  I'll run it if we get enough interest.

If another person helps, I’ll try. I don’t follow NASCAR, but this has always looked fun.

Welcome. You should find this thread much more enjoyable to participate in. Just some people sharing a common interest with no axe to grind. Hope you stay for the duration of the season.

If I end up investing in my dream fishing shack down south, I should probably have a basic knowledge of NASCAR.  Something my son might enjoy doing too.

I am much more of a fan of watching drag racing and the IMSA series, just to see the cool cars...  I'll definitely watch a bit of the Rolex at Daytona this weekend.  I like the format of drag racing, with the tournament setting.  For some reason, that just makes any competition more exciting to me.

Is there a buy in on this?  I mean donation that I will be giving?

No buy in that I'm aware of. Check with Indsguiz. He's the man that handles things here.
Ahhh, drag racing. A man after my own heart. Back in the day I used to do quite a bit of that. Both on and off the track. Basically stock vehicles or some slightly modified. Only lost 2 or 3 other cars along the way. The closest I ever came to left turn only racing was when I helped out on the wrecker at our local dirt track. My brother and a few of my nephews raced on a regular basis. Wow, those where the days. Brings back a lot of memories.

Lost that many races or lost that many cars?  I hope not high speed wrecks?

My neighbor's dad growing up was a big drag racing guy.  He had a few track drag cars and everything else he had was track ready street cars.  All 60s-70s MOPAR stuff.  Was fun when he'd drive us around in one of his fast back Barracudas, watching the lights in the Liberty Tunnels through the back window.  A bunch of my buddies growing up had some nice roadsters too.  I had a WRX for a while after I started making some money, fun to drive, but no racing with it.

I'm not a huge drag racing fan, but when flipping through the channels, I will watch.  Not sure if it is the tournament set up or that it is usually only on for 1/2 hour?  Kind of like bowling (which I like to do, but watching people bowl is rough), but only on for 1/2 hour, so I will watch to see who wins...  NASCAR is like most sports on TV, the last 10 minutes is exciting, but I can't devote time for the whole race.  Steelers games are pretty much all that I do that for and even then I have it on DVR and fast forward through the commercials and halftime to cut the time in half.

I should have said "I only lost one race with my 1968 Roadrunner, and lost a few races to a guy who also drove a Chevy similar to the one I had." I did demolish a 1957 Chevy Bel Air at the end of a street race. I raced a neighbor of mine who had a 1957 Oldsmobile J-2. I won the race but failed to negotiate a right turn in a fork of the road at the next intersection. Looks like I won the battle but lost the war!

This Rolex 24 is pretty cool. Although, it will hold my attention for about 10 more minutes. Chase Elliot is the only name that I have ever heard... So, I bet you will see me picking that guy a bunch this year. Cool looking cars, but can’t see them in the dark. Pretty sure they switch drivers. Not sure if offered to drive a Lamborghini, but had to drive for 24 straight hours, if I’d do it. For money, most likely. But for just the bonereffect of driving a Lamborghini, not sure. If they let me cruise A1A for 2-3 hours, heck yeah!

My buddy’s dad gave him a 73ish Roadrunner which was pretty cool. The same car as Daisy Duke. I don’t think it was insane fast like yours or some of his dad’s others, but way too fast for a 17-18 year old. Was fun to ride around in.

Wasn’t sure if that was who you mentioned. Guess I need someone else to pick. Bummed to hear that Trickle died a few years back. Always loved when the Sports Center guys would make sure to mention him on any race.

    Gentlemen,
It looks like we have enough to make it interesting.  And a new player  Welcome Porktown!  I'll review the rules for this year.  The object is to pick a winner, a long shot (any driver not in the Top 12) and a car/Driver you think will be the 1st car out of the race.  Scoring is:  Your winners points, plus your longshot points, minus your 1st Out points equals your score for the week.  W + LS - 1st Out = total.
The only rules to this are:
    1.  If you pick a winner, and they don't qualify - you get 0 points
    2.  If you pick a Long Shot who is in the Top 12 - You get 0 points
    3.  If you pick a 1st Out who doesn't make the race - You lose 40 points
4   If there is a tie in scoring best winner/LS will be the tiebreaker.
    5.  If two players pick the same drivers for all three places  tie breaker will be earliest pick submission.
    6.  In the event of multiple drivers using the same car, or a driver qualifying a car for another driver, we will score by car number.
    7.  I will try to score by the official scoring on the NASCAR web site.
    8.  1st three weeks is an open field No Top 12.  4th Week Top 12 starts.
    9.  Each weeks best picker will be declared NASCAR God of the Week and get applause .  The better your score the more emojis I use.
10..  This is a friendly contest.  Keep me honest (sometimes scoring changes in the case of big wrecks)  Have fun.
    11.  If you are unable to post for a race, your previous weeks picks will be carried over to the next week.  After three missed races you will get no carry-over.

DID I MISS ANYTHING?  Practice picks for the All Star race (Clash).  Real picks start with the Daytona 500
