Locked Up?

I'm guessing Elk and Walnut are pretty much locked up.  Anyone have any trib conditions or know of any open water?

My wife said I golfed too much...so I started fishing.

I have to go to Erie tomorrow.  I will check the Elk creek on the way up and post what I find here.  It has been well below freezing since Monday and there most likely will be some ice.  Also, the early mornings after a very cold night usually means there will be some slush in the water.  Besides that, the news at noon today said we could be looking at a winter storm starting later tonight or early tomorrow and lasting until sometime Saturday.  Check the weather before you come.

Thanks Bughawk, that will help.  Were not planning to come up until next Wednesday but we want to keep up on the streams to see if they'll be fishable.

I have a contact up there and he told me all the creeks were open yesterday.  Hopefully the significant flow will keep ice from forming.  These temps sure don't help matters much.

I sure wouldn't get your hopes up, anything can happen this time of year.

Each day this week I've seen Elk and Walnut, and they are both firming up a little more.  Lots of slush in the morning as well.

just got back from Erie.  There was ice on the I 79 hole in McKean and the hole at Rick Road.  There where three guys fishing some open water at Sterretania Rd.  I went to Walnut access area and the creek is pretty much frozen over from just north of the Manchester bridgeto the lake.  I saw a few guys ice fishing in the marina.  The Manchester hole had a flow through it, but there was ice over most of the hole.  On the way home I stopped by Poor Richards and talked with the guy there.  He said a few people had brought in fish, but not many.

The roads were not bad, but the back roads have some snow and slush.

If you are planning to come up, check the weather.  The current temp in southern Erie county is 28 degrees and the temperature is not supposed to go above freezing today.

Good luck if you come up to fish.
