Spring Perch Fishing?

Can someone give me a good method to try spring perch fishing? I got my new lund late last year and really enjoyed catching the perch out off the Pa shores. I was using rigs with live minnows off the botom. did pretty good. Just wondered if i should use the same method off shore in Ohio waters. where and how advice is what im asking i guess. Thanks

I often fish out of conneaut with friends and use the same perch spreaders or crappie rigs. There is also a bait shop right before the launch as you head to the harbor. Be careful how far you back in but with an 18ft lund you should be fine. They do charge a $5 launch fee.

If your ever in need of someone to help with gas and bait expenses let me know.

    Joedirt,
I'd start in the channel by the markers, or by the cribs.  The guys at east avenue bait shop can really help you since they are gathering minnows everyday and fishing everyday.  I think they post on the "fishing reports" as PresqueIsleAngler.  I do know we always start fairly shallow, 20 or so feet, and work out.  Also, if you launch at Lampe's, you are protected from a west wind.  No protection if the wind is from the east though.  We usually start in April or as soon as it makes sense.  Great smallmouth fishing in the same spots by the way.

    Joedirt,
Sorry, I didn't read the part about Ohio waters.  I was describing Erie, PA waters.  In the spring, wherever you go, you don't  have to go far, however, the weather can be nasty and windy, so I recommend launching out of East Avenue, or Lampe's.

Joe" I thought i had read in one of your posts you had an 18 or 19 foot boat. I've seen much bigger boats launched at conneaut but know there have been several people who had their trailer wheels drop off the launch concrete and they ended up busting an axle. I was just trying to advise to be safe launching. In the spring or even now check out ohiogamefishing.com. They have quite a lot of info about that area.

davef they did have a problem with the launch at Conneaut Harbor but it was repaired last spring they made them longer so you don't back off the end. The bait shop at top of the hill is called Snug Harbor.

My son and I fish out of east ave launch. We usually get bait at Presque Isle Angler Bait Shop and they are allways helpful there. If it is to rough we fish the bay. Spring time the bay is usually full of perch.

I have never actually went fishing for perch, have caught quite a few on accident but from what I hear its a blast!  Maybe get a charter and give it a try this spring or meet a nice guy on here who might want to exchange his services for some Spoons  What kind of setups do you guys use?  Is it mostly jigging?  I hear there great eating?

    Thanks guys!

Once the season gets into full swing just launch and head north and look for the Armada & you'll find perch.
