First what kind of waters are you putting it in. How many people are going to be with you. What are you going to pull it with a big truck. Then look at what’s in the boat or what is it made from.

There are a few things you must keep in mind when choosing a fishing boat. First is the size;

You have to decide if it will be just you in the boat or if you intend to go shipping with other people.

Also, the type of deck is another important factor to consider. Dual console boats, for instance, have more seating and storage space and center console boats have more deck space for casting and reeling in fish.

The bottom line is to talk to a trusted dealer who can point you in the right direction on what boat fits your needs best.

It is very reasonable depending on the initial quality of the boat build and the engine upkeep.  I have a '92 Mako CC (for sale) we ran for years on Erie and I wouldn't hesitate to continue to use it except that we got an '86 Shamrock (hard top)that we now run. Both boats were high quality construction when built and it shows.  Solid frames and transoms and well laid fiberglass hulls. The mechanical parts can be replaced or updated as needed. Pay attention to hull quality, transom material and solid news overall.  The only drawback I have found with the age of boat may be when insuring it, some companies limit the type of coverages they offer so you have to shop around.
