bullgills

Trout fishing has slowed a bit for my buds, but they have been hammering Bull-gills & Crappies, weather permitting, most of the gills cover their hands & are 2 fingers wide across the backs. Float & fly technique.  sam

Local small park lakes, or bigger waters? I've had my son out a couple times so far this spring and he really wants to keep a few, but has a hard time understanding that a 5 inch bluegill is not exactly got for the pan (he's 4).

Hope you get him into some. Panfish should be on fire soon. Get a nice little fish fry for him too. Gills make for some awesome pan frying.

Thanks Sam for the good reports!

fishingguy, You may want to check with the PF&BC to see if you can get a certificate for your young'ns first fish. My kids treasured theirs for years, maybe even get the kids enrolled in the PF&BC junior programs. Gives the kids a sense of belonging. Get them started young & make it fun for them, someday they may take you along.  sam

Good stuff FishinGuy. Hopefully a nice largemouth gives him a surprise soon too. One of my favorite things about largemouth. They seem to hang out with those panfish and every so often grab what you are throwing. They give me a nice smile when they surprise me, unless the panfish arenā€™t biting too...

Thanks fisherlady. Thanks pork. We got em on worms we dug together, and flies we tied together. He's not fly fishing yet, and I'm helping him cast still, but we had loads of fun.

redman, My buddy just came home from the lower lake & while he was gill fishing with his grandkids they saw a couple of trout jumping & 1 large trout swimming past them. I would think that the best time would be early morn. btw the boathouse is still closed. good luck  sam
