Senator Duckworth wants to tear down the Washington Monument!? Goodness, I am tragically uninformed. Would someone please provide a link to this expression on the Senator’s part so that I can, as my man Luke says: “....get my mind right.”

Would you accept Senator Duckworth evading the direct question regarding tearing down statues?

https://www.cnn.com/video...u-duckworth-statue.cnn

Duckworth is all about the "Pelosi Swampcrats" rhetoric of Russia, Russia, Russia and the Swampcrats continuous drive for racial divide in America.

So, other than that, hows the fishin been? For me, fishin in PA, I gave it up for a lost cause.

BT - unfortunately, no, I would not. Actually, I’m well aware of the Senator’s remarks. What I have not heard from her is a desire to tear down the Washington Monument. So how did such remark enter into the discussion? It’s a mystery.

I had high hopes for spring steelhead in NY. Made one trip to a large Erie trib...modestly successful. After early March I got “the look” from my mate and contented myself with tying flies and organizing equipment. Champing at the bit. This might be a subject for another thread but I’m wondering how reduced pressure on the big lakes this summer might affect trib fishing this year.

Irish, fishing is not a subject for another thread, this is a fishing blog so we can talk fishing anywhere we want. Nobody gonna shut down my freedom of fishing speech. 😊 Catching however, may or may not be talked about at certain times. 🙈

After this heat wave, I'm wondering, if there's gonna be any water, left in the tribs.

Heck you disappeared for a bit, I thought you might be living on the streams.

As for Senator Duckworth avoiding a direct question related to destroying the Washington Monument. Could not the Senators circumventing and failure to denounce such action, be heard as permitting the distruction to continue?

We certainly see this very accusation, used against any GOP who fails to agree with the Dems?

Senator Duckworth was not asked about the Washington Monument. She was asked about Washington STATUES, about which she said that the people suggesting such action “should be heard” before pivoting to an attack on the President, just like a politician.

So, she did not say that she wanted to tear down the Washington Monument, yet that remark remains out there floating in the blogosphere, pretending to be true, and perhaps fooling some uncritical thinkers into believing it is.

Irish I understand what you're sayin, but I also can understand why folks think Senator Duckworth promotes destroying statues because she never ask for the violent protesting to stop.

Truthfully, it wouldn't matter if Duckworth did ask for the violence to stop because those in the streets, looting & burning, have proven they do it just because they can.

In other matters, r3 is posting some positive info about the lake.

Good Grief... we most forgot 'bout "Uncle Joe". Been two weeks since we last conversed 'bout the ole boy.

annnnnnnd, "Uncle Joe" says on MSNBC...... he's not committed to nominating a black woman, butt he does have four on his vetting list.

Yep yep, Joe Biden said it and all y'all can read about it, cause internet news media is lighting up with it.

Joe Biden

.......Biden told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on the premiere of her prime time show “The ReidOut,” however, that he is not committed to a Black definitely being his-running mate.

Instead of trying to find the most qualified person he can- regardless of race or gender-to be a heartbeat from the presidency he is playing the race card--typical Dem behavior.

Ya might think that if he does pick a woman of color she would be mad enough to turn him down as she would feel like nothing more than a token gesture for the rest of her life.

r3 any of the people who has been mentioned to be Biden's VP have very low self esteem. They themselves have no intension of keeping promises as they have few if any morals.

Funny "Uncle Joe" back tracks on his VP picks, at the same time Lizzy Warren's groupies mumble.

Who should bat third, Yelich or Trout? Starter, Verlander or Cole? QB, Rodgers or Maholm? What’s that?...it doesn’t really matter?....they’re all eminently qualified?
Every woman currently being vetted for VP is qualified for the job. There is no argument to be made. With that as the case, accusations of some sort of racial disparity or favoritism are silly diversions. A preponderance of Black voters don’t care about the race of the VP nominee. Why should anyone else then, except to stir up controversy and division? Check out the level of Black voter support for Cory Booker and Kamala Harris during the run-up....negligible. Want further proof of qualifications? (And pardon my dalliance in whataboutism here, but I can’t resist). A six-time bankrupted ex game show host was deemed qualified to be president.

Been gonna do this for a while - since VP is on the table   lol

Back when I was an elected Dem I had met Senator Joe Lieberman a number of times and liked him- we chatted a few times and I liked his views- he was a moderate as myself- we were both from Connecticut.
Joe was picked as the Dem VP  candidate and his team lost in that famed Florida hanging chad thingie -they won the popular vote but as often happens not the delegate count.

Next time around Ct did NOT pick him as the Dem candidate for Senate so he ran as an Dem independent and beat the Dem choice and the Rep choice keeping his Senate seat by a clear margin,
Clearly a VERY popular guy.

Well - always liked and respected Senator John McCain and when the Reps picked him for their Presidential candidate there was a LOT of talk about him choosing his best friend from Congress ,Joe, as his running mate.
Issue was the Joe wasnt a Rep and that the party might not approve- the rumors continued throughout the season and the night came for McCain to announce his pick.
Many still believed that he would choose Joe.
Not to be- he trotted out that idiot 'Soccer Mom from Wasilla'.
As the wife and I watched she came on stage and started talking- bout 3 minutes into it I turned to my wife and said- " well, they just lost" and changed the channel.

Joe finished his term and never ran for anything again.

tsk tsk..... this election is not about Biden or his VP.

The Dems (A/K/A; Pelosi House of Swamprats) must get voters out in hopes of saving the house of Pelosi. Biden changing his tune for a VP undoubtedly certifies, Pelosi and her Swampcrats have lost the black vote, never had the brown vote and now must placate to the groupies who (so smoked up) don't vote.

GOP wins the house, keeping the senate and white house...... game over.

Drain the Swamp 2020.

I thought Joe was a level headed middle of the road kind of politician. A shame there arn't more like him around now, regardless of what party they belong to. I said it before and I'LL repeat it again. I'm sure there are very capable, intelligent well meaning people from both parties including the independents, representing the people. Too bad they don't work toward the common good of the majority of the people of this country and try and run the affairs of the country the way the founding fathers envisioned it to be. Between so many  politicians and many in the news media seemingly wanting to see the country torn apart by pitting the various groups of people from different social and economic backgrounds and those of different ethnic backgrounds against one another.

"The cause of freedom is not the cause of race or a sect, a party or a class-it is the cause of human kind, the very birthright of humanity."Quote by Anna Julia Cooper.

BT: WAKE UP!! WAKE UP! You’re having a bad dream!

Do you honestly think that the Dem’s gains and momentum shown in the 2018 mids will, never mind continue...but will reverse? Ah...ah....I don’t think so. All they have to do is not trip over themselves in the next three months to maintain the house and (hold your ears) gain the White House. And by not trip over themselves I mean concentrate on “kitchen table” issues like jobs and healthcare. Before anyone throws the “radical left” attack at me let me just say that that is no doubt the angle the Republicans are leading with, it’s what they wish for, but it’s really a pretty desperate strategy. Everything about Joe Biden says moderate. His VP choice will confirm this.

I think this election compares with Reagan/Carter, 1980, with Joe playing the role of Ronnie and Donald playing the hapless stooge who couldn’t free the hostages. This holds right down to Joe using Ronnie’s catch-phrase: are you better off than you were four years ago?

Trump is history. The Republicans would do well to put all of their efforts into maintaining their Senate majority.

Around the time I knew Joe and was holding office as a Dem there began what some of us started to call 'the agenda'.
Those of us using that term were middle of the  road and didnt go with far out legislation even on the local level, but the extreme stuff was starting to show up.
None of 'us' are there any longer.
Making NO personal comparison whatsoever but it seems to have started out West earlier- Reagan was a California Dem who changed and said "I didnt leave the party- it left me".

I do believe that as more and more cities explode into violent protests with looting, burning and total disrespect for rule of law that they will drive normal moderate reasonable folks who do not want this country to be destroyed into trumps camp even if they don't like him. When this crap spreads to suburbs and it will the moms will see there world isn;t safe for them or their kids anymore. If you really believe Joe Biden will solve any of this you are dreaming he has 47 years of doing nothing going for him.

Jobs and healthcare; Biden's gonna push stimulus spending to build infrastructure and create jobs, and he's gonna push for a public option for the ACA.

And for that, Trump and the GOP is gonna accuse him of trying to turn the US into the Soviet Union. For healthcare policy that the entire western world has had for decades, and paint by numbers New Deal Progressivism, the GOP is going to portray him as Karl Marx re-incarnated. Its all they got.

Almost hate to do it, but on one count, I'm gonna agree with 'eyeball. None of the black Dem candidates were able to garner the black vote in the primaries, but Harris scored big points when she wrangled with Biden over the laws he introduced that put a lot of black folks in prison, but even that didn't rescue her and produce a decent showing in the primaries. Still, if he's still looking for a black female VP candidate, she may hold the best qualifications as she has the political experience, but she also is carrying some baggage from her judiciary days.
r3g3, I must also admit that I like Joe Lieberman. He was, and most likely still is, what we called a Blue Dog Democrat, a middle of the road somewhat conservative agreeable fellow with a good head on his shoulders, but he is also one of the folks whose party left him in the dust when they made the hard left turn. He's a bit old too, but I'd bet if he ran on 'Crat ticket for POTUS right now, he'd probably win hands down. There are millions of aging Democrats that have the same values as he. His strong stance on the military would drive the leftists nuts.
If the Democrats insist on upholding their utter disdain for the rule of law, and the riots and destruction spread from the cities outward, many of those 'Crats will vote for Trump as the lesser of two evils.

For Liberals, whenever reality conflicts with ideology, it is reality that must change.

This is not 2016 and Joe Biden is not (as polarizing) as Hillary Clinton. People like Joe. Donald, not so much. All it’s going to take are a few cracks, and they’re already showing up. I don’t have any studies to support this - don’t need ‘em. I have my sisters. Four woman from Trump’s heartland, his ground zero in the state of Pennsylvania - Johnstown. They voted for him in 2016 and they’re not voting for him in 2020. They are not alone.
