Camping overnight.
Anyone have any recomondations on any good campgrounds ar state parks that a person towing a boat could stay at for the week end. I have looked up alot but you dont know what they are like till you get there. Peoples opions sometimes save alot of time searching. I thought about sleeping in the walmat parking lot overnight. I didnt know how say all my gear would be though?

Joedirt, There is a Walmart not far from the airport that should be OK. It is maybe 5 minutes from Walnut creek access. As for the campgrounds, I have not stayed at any, but the one down by Elk Creek, I think it is called Uncle John's looks nice when you drive by. Also, Folly's End is one that people seem to like. Sorry about not being any more help than that.

Joe Dirt, I often stay at Follies when I'm up by myself. Jim is very accomodating. I usually just sleep in the back of my truck. It has a cap and with an air mattress what more do you need? The wash house is well maintained and the water is hot. Plus each of the sites have electrity and a water spigot. Also a picnic table and fire ring. If there's any one negative , no place to put your fish guts. Jim doesn't want them in the dumpster.Hope this helps. Also there is a KOA camp ground off of Rte 832 near Sterritania but I've never stayed there. Lou

we've looked into a few of them. Folly's would be our choice as well.

Where is Folly's located. I've staged at Sara Coynes, that gets crowded on the weekends.

Try this site. I trailered my boat up last year and really enjoyed it there. It is very close (100 yards) from the Laempe Marina launch ramp (which is free), and if you want to you can rent a slip there for about $20 a day. If not, you can keep your boat at your campsite. The campsites are about $25 per day, cheaper and better than Sara's, and quieter. There is a littl beeping noise when the coke plant pushes coke out, but other than that, it's a great place, and you can walk to the south pier if you want to fish for perch off shore. Also, I watched a guy last year throw spinnerbaits in the pond just to the south of the south pier, and he caught 4 or 5 bass while I watched. The biggest was about 3-4 pounds. The showers are brand new last year, and you are right on top of the best perch areas, the point, the cribs, Shorewood, etc. Also, East Avenue bait shop is about 1/4 mile by water from the launch, and they always know where the perch are biting, and have plenty of minnow. Hit the "camping" link on this site. Good luck. Since this campground is very new, not many people know about it yet. http://www.porterie.org/camping.html Dan

Thanks for the info and addressof Follys. I pulled up their site. It looks like a beautiful spot, I'll have to drag the tent up there and give it a try.

Pgh_flytier, I have not camped there, but used to fish that section of Elk a lot and it is very nice area. The campground is right along the creek and during the fall when the leaves are in full color, it is absolutely beautiful. Also, I assume from your screen name you tie flies. There is a nice little fly shop at the campground.

Good morning Bughawk!...Looks like I'll be up your way around the end of March, beginning about the 16th to visit the daughter.I'll give you a holler as the time approaches. Regarding Follys, never camped there but there is lots of stream available right there and the fly shop is well stocked with supplies, seems like a good base of operation.

Hi pafisher. The cold weather and ice should be gone by then. It would be good to see you again and do a little fishing. I just started tying tube flies... like I needed something else to do... and would like to share a few with you on the stream. According to Nagy, they are the cat's meow...

That campground at Lampe marina, is perfect for fishermen, just don't expect a "campground atmosphere" it will be a little different than that, but perfect for fishermen....I checked it out last summer....
Better too far back, than too far forward.
