If it gets cold and stays cold like they're predicting, I would say the weekend will be tough.  Even with the creeks high and muddy now it doesn't take them very long to come down.  Within a few days the creeks will start locking up.  You might be able to find some open water if you do some walking.  I hope it isn't to bad either I would like to hook into some steel Saturday.  Might have to wait another week.

Here is a link to a local TV station's website - http://yourerie.com/content/weather  Their weather predictions are usually pretty good.

Best thing to do is call Poor richard's on Friday to see what they have to say - or you could read the Fishing Reports Page - all of these resources should be helpful in making your decision!

Good luck if you make it up!

If you're willing to walk atleast a little bit anyway, there's usually always open water somewhere on the westside (assuming that's where you'd be headed) despite some sections being iced over. You can also, albeit carefully, break the ice if it's not too terrible.

Wed. and Thurs may be your best bet...It WILL be cold but the streams will be fishable.  As far as weekend, if the the cold continues as predicted, you may be contending with ice and slush for sure.  We will know more by mid week.  I'm hoping to get up this weekend too.  We'll see.

I have to go to Erie Friday and will check the streams on the way up.  It has been below freezing for the last few days and nights, so I would tend to think there will be ice, but we will see on Friday.

Better check the weather,it don't look like a good day to be on the road, fishing is not worth a accident on the road.

Did you call Poor Richards and inquire as to the stream conditions?

I just got back from Erie.  There was ice on the I 79 hole in McKean and the hole at Rick Road.  There where three guys fishing some open water at Sterretania Rd.  I went to Walnut access area and the creek is pretty much frozen over from just north of the Manchester bridgeto the lake.  I saw a few guys ice fishing in the marina.  The Manchester hole had a flow through it, but there was ice over most of the hole.  On the way home I stopped by Poor Richards and talked with the guy there.  He said a few people had brought in fish, but not many.

The roads were not bad, but the back roads have some snow and slush.

If you are planning to come up, check the weather.  The current temp in southern Erie county is 28 degrees and the temperature is not supposed to go above freezing today.

Good luck if you come up to fish.

I went for a ride yesterday before the gun raffle at Rainbow gardens.  Checked out Elk, both access areas were locked up, checked at the Legion hole, a little open in the skinny water areas, but only one car there.  Went to Struchen flats, a little open water on the shallow shale areas, everything else locked up, went to Folley's, same story.  I did see four or five guys standing in the hole just upstream from the West road bridge at Sterretania but that was all.  With the mornings temps in the teens, I decided to stay home this morning.  Oh well, one or two weekends a year isn't all that bad, although the weather doesn't look like much change for next week either.  Maybe after lunch the streams may open a little.
