Flinter season 2019/20

Good luck to all that will head out for one of the most cherished hunts in this state. Remember that the season was extended a week statewide this year so we now will have 4 Saturdays to chase them deers with the flinchlock. I chose to not shoot a doe in rifle this year so I will be on the hunt in a few weeks.

Got my possibles bag and quick reloads all set up and ready to go and gave the flintlock a good going over. Re-set the flint and swabbed the bore.  Now all we need is some cold weather and some snow. Long range forecast for the first Saturday doesn't look all that promising.

I know a guy that's killed 3 deer already and is ready to go flintlock and fill one more tag .
He's 68 years old and lives alone !

When this season was first established, if you wanted a flint tag, you had to give up your doe application. Never got to “hunt” it because of this and one and done. Not that I didn’t go — designated dog. That’s how we hunted this season — drive, drive, and drive some more. I swear my legs were 3 inches shorter at the end of the season.

When the rules changed and I actually got to shoot, it was great! But now, I think I would be more accurate with my crossbow. I sure as heck wouldn’t flinch as much and it is a world easier to clean.

+1 on the cross-bow. Bullseye every time at 55 yards with the bow. Not so much with the flintlock.

Well, go get em folks. My flintlock season starts tomorrow. Looks like fog in the morning then warm and partly cloudy in these parts. I plan to do an all dayer.

Good luck to those headed out.

Just came back in after a deerless 7 hours. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Just couldn't bring myself to hang in there for another 3.

Pretty slow for my gang of mix flintlock/shot gun guys in 2B. 2 misses for shotgun guys and that was it. Only a couple deer seen. Few other groups of guys beat us to some drives, had us scrambling a little bit.

I went with group of guys today in 1b and we had deer going on every drive. There were a few misses and a bunch of miss fires but everyone saw deer and we had fun. I personally saw 9 bucks and 26 doe. Unfortunately my aim was off.

Ugly is the word describing Saturday's weather. Looks like the wet nasty stuff may get out of the western end of the state by late morning turning to snow showers for the afternoon. If that forecast holds, maybe I will sneak out for the afternoon.

Had a good day yesterday. After a few misfires was able to shoot a doe on back to back drives filling my two 2D tags. Saw 21 doe and a large bodied buck who dropped his horns already.

Congrats Moses! Contemplated going out yesterday with the fresh snow cover, but after feeling like the flu was setting in new years eve I decided against it. Hoping to get out for a while Saturday, but as stated the weather looks less than user friendly. Good luck out there guys!

Shot doe from group of 8 new years day. Of the 8 one was buck grunting and chasing one doe back and forth. It had no horns, was a large deer, however it never got close enough for me to see head carefully.

Thanks guys. I'm done pulling the trigger this season. Designated dog now.

My one buddy is retired and been out every day still trying to fill a buck tag has seen 3 different bucks pushing doe over the last week. Some does definitely coming into heat in his woods.
