Ice set ups help

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about new ways to ice fish for perch/crappie.  I usually put out 2 tip ups, one with a shiner and one with a jig and earthworm, maybe a maggot/waxworm.  I also use 2 poles one with a shiner and a  light rod with a small jighed and maggots/waxworms.  This is my first year ice fishing so any advice you have would be appreciated.     tip ups will catch an occasional fish, generally used for bigger fish. 2 rods are good. In my shanty I have a jiging rod and a deadstick rod w/a spring bobber. As for bait try meal worms,red worms. maggots,and your shiners are fine.

    what kind of line should i use i just have the stuff that came with the rod.  I have medium rod with some pretty stiff stuff i have no ide what it is.

    take off the thick crap, go to 2-4lb for sensitivity...much better, a light jig will keep the line tight...

    went there for an hour after work to see if i could get a few gills (ended up with 8 gills, 1 crappie) and most of the ice was 4-5inches clear with an inch of white ice on topl...

    I use 2lb Cajun Red Uce line on my panfish rods,and 6lb on my largefish rod (pike,walleye). Landed a chromer on 2lb yesterday,took awhile. I have to preferred jigs,modified kastmaster w/ hali chain, lindy frostee spoon w/hali chain agian. Skies the limit on jigs but those are my go toes

    nice thanks for the advice guys, i dont know about the ice on misery after the rain but i was out about three days ago and it was pretty thick.
