Congrats to all of you that scored today! You definitely deserved it for sticking out the rain. I'm not much of a rifle hunter, and I'd definitely take a foot of snow over the rain so it didn't bother me to be at work today.

Was out in the nasty stuff all day.   Did not see a single deer.   Not much shooting probably because not many hunters out.
Back out in the bushes tomorrow.
Congrats to any one who harvested a back.

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

5 of my crew scored to-day including 2-9pts; 2-8pts; & a 6pt. my son got a very cool looking 8pt. with a approx. 5" drop tine & a crab main beam. congrats to them for sticking it out in what was at times very nasty weather. It is killing me to not be able to be there as I am sure you & other fathers & Mothers know. At least I will be getting some fresh Deer liver.   sam

Congrats to all the lucky hunters...

Bagged the morning with the gusty wind and sideways rain here in the SW side of 2B.  Was a couple openings my son and I could have gotten out but he didn't want to so I wasn't pushing the issue.
Took my daughter out with the crossbow and sat in a ground blind for the afternoon.  Only one deer, a button buck, seen but, it got within 10 yds and entertained us for awhile so she got a kick out of it.  She also got to see a squirrel fall from a tree for the second time this season.  Not often you see one fall much less a couple....

Way to go eyes, there's nothing like quality time with the kids in a deer stand.

What a difference a day makes, There's 4-6" of snow on the ground in my corner of the state. Hopefully it helps out those who are still searching for the elusive whitetail.

Okay I figured out this picture thing

That sucks mopars. Might need to hide the game camera near your shanty and catch the little chits in action.

Re: Gun Season ... 2018 2018/11/28 06:56:45 (permalink)
Sorry to hear that mopars. Some folks are just jerks.

I’ve had to toss people out of tree stands more times than I care to recall. All were on posted, private land where they shouldn’t have been anyway.

One was a wooden, built stand and when confronted, one a—hole told me that since it was a permanent stand on private ground, he figured it belonged to either the landowner, family, or friend, so it had to be a good spot. He said his plan was to hunt it, hoping that someone didn’t show up and if someone did, he would just leave.

The next year, there was no one in my stand, but just after light, a shot was fired so close (behind a little rise in the terrain) that I could hear the person work the action of a bolt action rifle. When I went down to see, it was the same guy as the year before. He told me that since he figured I would be in my stand, he got in a position to cut the deer off before they got to me.

I just shook my head and walked away because he felt he was okay in doing that on ground he had no permission to hunt. As I went back to my stand, not in the best frame of mind to enjoy (sometimes people forget this whole hunting and fishing thing is supposed to be fun) the rest of the day, I called the landowner (this was the first year I had a cell phone), who was hunting another of his properties to let him know the same guy was there again. He told me that he saw that a road gate was open (the lock was cut) on his way hunting, so he put a new lock on it (there would be no other way out as the road deadended in the woods) and called his uncle, who was on duty as a State Trooper to give a few drive bys if possible.

I find out that the uncle’s timing for showing up was perfect as he arrived at the gate just as the jerk was cutting the second lock, complaining that someone locked him in. Not only was he charged with criminal trespass, because he destroyed the locks, but he also had six cherry logs, that the landowner cut and left to pick up after hunting season in the back of his truck.

Some people are just jerks.

If you have hunting l your life, there will be many stories. I'll make this a short as possible. I got permission to build a permanent stand on a landowners property. I was hunting in it the first day about 10:30 am I decided to take a short walk and planned on getting back up in it for the rest of the day. I forgot to mention I left my backpack, and lunch in the tree. After a very short 15-20 minutes,I returned to find a guy perched in it eating my lunch and drinking coffee from my thermos. Talk about wanting to something very bad......lol I told him get the F--- down and don't move. I examined my belongings to make sure he didn't borrow anything,I then added a few (not very nice words) and sent him on his way. Well no sandwiches, a couple of candy bars where all that was left.lol Spent the day letting that eat me up,fuming under the gills. At 4:30 a small 10pts was trying his best to sneak by but my 270 though otherwise. It all worked out but I couldn't wait to get something to eat.lol I sotta believe in Karma. To all the jerks that have stolen and destroyed other people's stuff, watch your back jerks it's coming.

Wow! Eating your lunch? That is really low.

I have a treehouse, a 12’ X 12’ platform really, on my property. We had a guy and a girl park at the end of our driveway, walk through our yard, through our field, and into the woods.

It took me a while to walk after them, getting a Glock along the way, and by the time I got there, they were having a big time in the treehouse (it was summer).

When I confronted them and asked if they were lost, the guy gave me attitude that he knew exactly where he was and was not happy about my disruption.

Managed to round up a decent 8 point Tuesday afternoon at 4:40. My cousin also shot an 8 point 30 minutes before I did. Man the snow makes a world of difference. Monday afternoon, another hunter in our camp got an 8 point. So we went 3/5 which is pretty good. Been a while since we had 3 hanging.

First day was miserable. Sideways rain with a steady 15-20mpg wind and no snow cover. Seen two deer. I heard a shot at 7 then the next shot wasn't until 10:45. No one hunting. Didn't even feel like deer season the first two days. Every buck we shot was natural late day movement feeding.

Local news visited a rare hunters breakfast Monday morning. Hardly anyone there. It is a shame how the sport is dying in Pa.

Congrats dpms ... sounds like you guys are getting. er done also 👍👍

Thanks guys for sharing your stories , YES a bunch of jerks out there at times .. I was out one year with my son he shot a buck and it came running under my stand . I dropped it on the path right off the field but hit high on back it was trying to get up back wasn’t going anywhere. Anyhow these 2 guys came runing up ,it was down , I yielled at them told them it’s down I got it , they shot it anyways . So I got there and the one guy was taking his coat off asked what are you doing going the clean out and tag it he said . Told him don't think So the deer was down and I yelled at you I turned around saw my son coming told the guy see that big boy coming there it is actually his deer you can deal with him if you like... he put his coat back on and they left .. son said what was that all about I said they were going to take your deer ... he said REALLY 😜👍

Deer looked to be on the move today. Had 4 cross the road in front of me on the way to work this AM. Saw 20+ deer feeding in a field just down from my place this afternoon around 4 on my way home. As I shoveled the driveway until after dark I head zero shots out in the sticks which was surprising. All of them does I saw today better be on their A game Saturday.

Congrats to you and your crew dpms 👍

More rain for Saturday....yeahhhhh......
We were going to trek up north to my cousin's place in Warren Co. and let the kids have a go at it up there but, not making that trip for another wash-out.  We'll try to get out around the house here in 2B if there are any breaks in the weather and hold off on the trip up north until the last Saturday.

Good luck ya'll....

That story was believable until the trespassing hunter ate his lunch. And I'm not surprised he went out and bought a 6.5 Creedmoor. Its the new "it" gun

Brock, that was over 25 years ago.lol So I'm guessing I was about 35 or so. I was and still am a short fuse guy.  A lot of things flash before you but fortunately I got a grip on things before things got out of hand. I sat in the tree house rehashing that all day. Thankfully that little 10 pts came by. lol Plenty of stories in a lifetime of hunting and fishing.

Distant shooting was fairly steady all day Saturday ,especially morning hours. We stopped at the local deer processer to drop the buck off and there were a good number of fresh deer there, mostly doe. I was kind of shocked at how small size many were ! Really small !
