I remember in the distant past when reading the outdoor mags, them writing about bowhunting in the late season in Minn. & Mich. in -20% weather. Now this was before we had the cold weather gear that we have now. Have any of you done the same? Merry christmas to you also BTDT sam

I will be out there in a few short weeks. Hoping for cold and snow cover. And of course some cooperative late season deer.

I'll be trying to get the kids out if the weather isn't too cold. Didnt get anything Saturday up north. Pretty chilly up there so if they can handle that, I think a couple hour sit in the late season could be doable. My daughter lasted until 2pm on Saturday and it was the bathroom that did her in, not the cold. My younger son lasted until 11:30 am but he was in a heated hunting shack. Not seeing deer did him in. My daughter and I only saw one fawn come blowing by us at 20 yds and that was it.

I'm lookin forward to late season, pointy stick shootin, fo sho. Be nice to have somebody to talk to, around this thread, again. Allllllllthough, I'm not so sure them guys isn't closer 'en what I think. An awfully lot of shootin goin' on, in nearby parts. Never did find where them guyz run off to, but it sounds like far more bull-shootin than deer shootin', goin on. Good times and 3 tines.

Hope to be sitting Friday afternoon for my first late season archery go round. They are calling for rain in the morning, tapering to scattered showers in the afternoon. I guess I will check out the radar before deciding if I will go or not. I did a trail camera check this past weekend and it seems there are quite a few deer moving in the area of my stand.

Went out Friday afternoon for an evening archery hunt. I must be getting soft in my old age. Had a doe and her little one come past at 3:30. She is an old doe that is missing her right rear leg just below the ham. Been seeing her for a few years now. Tough old girl. Just couldn't bring myself to shoot her.

Did an evening sit tonight in steady snow with the bow. Had two within 20 yards of me on several occasions but both were fawns. Still 2 weeks to go in the SRAs.

Landowner that owns the land I was hunting Saturday afternoon texted me Sunday and asked why I wasn't hunting. There were deer all over the place all day long in and out of the woodlot. She said if I just sat on her back porch I should be able to get one. I reminded her that we can't hunt on Sundays.........

My son finally filled his Ohio buck tag yesterday afternoon. I very modest 6 pt. $200.license,35 trips in gas $450-500, $100 in corn ( baiting is legal) $75 deer processor. $875 for some free deer meat.lol We don't care about the money is own fun and and relaxation.lol Now I've got to buy vac bags, pork butts, hog casings. This sausage deer is costing quite a bit.lol Finally cost about $12 a pound.lol He probably saw 25 bucks but only 2 where up to his standards.lol He saw this deer on the first day in September and probably 5 or 6 more times. I was going to shoot one of the several little bucks on the farm but it's cheaper to eat my $200. Tag.lol I think 4 in the freezer enough this year and 1 given away to feed the needy.

Did a sit last night and had a shed buck come past me at last light. Judging by his body, he didn't have anything spectacular on his head when he carried. I let him walk.

Boy. the deer sure were out in force in the fields last night on my way home from work. I lost count @ 70 on my drive home.... Only one that I could tell was a small buck, close to the road in the fading light. I am sure more of them were, just too far away to put horns on while driving. Going to try and convince my daughter to do one last sit Saturday afternoon, if she is up for it.

Did a 4 hour sit this afternoon. Brrrr.... it was cold. Thought it was gonna happen but it didn't. Had 5 doe at 40 yards for quite some time but they never offered me a shot. They were feeding in the thick but I could never find a path to get an arrow through. Back at it tomorrow for the last hurrah!

Well, ended up seeing 15 yesterday afternoon. Good movement the whole time. Only problem is I have nothing to show for it! The season is officially over. The good news is I head to South Carolina on a hog hunt the first weekend in March and Ontario in June for a bear hunt, so it won't be long and I will be back in a stand.

Best of luck on your hunting adventures.
I got my crate from Africa yesterday. It is hard to imagine how they get that much stuff in that small of a crate. We picked it up at BWI ourselves and the import agent had ever “I” dotted and “T” crossed. It took about 15 minutes at the warehouse.
Popped the lid when I got home and the mounts are absolutely fabulous. All completely backwards from the direction I asked them to be mounted, but the best taxidermy work I’ve seen anywhere.
I can work with them being backwards by just switching the wall places. It might be my fault in understanding whether the direction was from my perspective or the animals (the instructions were a bit confusing because they were obviously translated to English).
I forgot how big the kudu and the gemsbok were and how tiny the Steenbok was. The kudu is just a tad over 60 inches from top of horn to the bottom of the mount. It is good the trophy room (which is about 50% done because I thought I had a year before the mounts came) has 9.5 foot ceilings. Even at putting the horns almost to the ceiling, it would be very easy for one to “kiss the kudu.”
The poster formally known as Duncsdad Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Glad you mounts turned out great. I would imagine there is a lot of anxiety when you get ready to pop the lid and take a look. After spending that kind of cash perfection is imperative. I have heard mixed reports about African Taxidermy. From outstanding to horrible.
