Lol. It was probably walnut, which was a puddle. I have zero desire to drive up there and surround 10 fish with 17 other duuds.

But if I lived close and could get there in the early am on a weekday before work, different story!

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

same story in ohio....  i fished 6 hours sunday morning on dropping water levels (perfect conditions) and only hooked up twice..... doesn't look good for the 2018 steelhead season... hope im wrong.

Did you read what I and others just posted?  Read the reports page?

There's no way for any of us to determine if its "worth it" to another individual.  Everyone sees it differently.  Look at the gauges-are they rising or falling?  Is rain predicted?  Will it blowahht?   Do some research and make your determination.  If you're looking for someone to respond and say "there's tons of fish" it ain't gonna happen.  Cause there aint!  But even if there was, no one would!

If I had the day off and it was only an ahhr drive, I might get up there super early and head to the lakefront if wind wasn't bad and chuck spoons.  Otherwise I wouldn't go yet.  No way I'm fishing the creeks again till more rain and lower temps.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

2018 Steelhead season report requirements. Mandatory!

Are there fish yes/no?
If yes, how many:
Creek and mile marker (as many details as possible):
Fly or Spinning Gear:
Color of fishing line:
Bait or lure type:
How far was bobber or indicator(if used) from bait:
Direction wind was blowing:

Need to know if my 2 hour drive is worth it.... lol. People kill me. Go fishing, not asking.

I’d say take the spinning rod and spoons or streamers and hit the lake. Go early, like arrive by 5AM. Should have some action in the Lake or mouth of streams. I’d personally avoid any of the larger streams myself.

Pretty much why I don’t do the early season steel head shuffle anymore. But when I was still impressed by catching some big slimers, it paid off. Have to make sure where you are fishing is legal to be there then. Usually done biting by the time I get up on an average weekend day. Some still catch, but the really dumb ones that I could catch were much more active around dawn. They don’t marinate as well as on a stringer in 80 degrees sun beaten stream water, but can’t ask for everything.

Rich I saw Tims post from last week. I went to that same place last Friday but too much wind, waves were cray cray!

I don’t have the day off...I ain’t going like I said, till more rain and lower temps. I put a lotta miles on the boots last week and it wasn’t “with it” for me just yet! Then again I’m not willing to fight crowds in the circus.

Re: Prediction 2018/10/04 23:03:57 (permalink)
The eastern third of Lake Erie finally dipped just below 68 degrees.

My theory:

67 is the magic number for things to start, and they'll start coming whether or not there's water.

65 over most of the lake and a good blow aht is what'll make it "worth it" for most of the yinzers like me with a two hour drive that like a pile of fish in every hole from the Walnut Marina up to the falls.  With the weather forecast, I would bet that'll be another week and a half to two weeks.  If ya care to Google it, you can find the long term average Lake Erie surface temps, and right now is when the long term average is 65.  If ya go by the calendar, you'd expect a pile o fish by now.  If ya go by lake temps, you'd expect a few here n there.

I'll be mup Monday with my boys, who don't have school in commemoration and celebration of Indigenous People's Day and hopefully we'll find a few dum ones somewhere.
