No help on the fuel line, sorry.

Read a great article from In-Fisherman archive 2014. I goggled water temps Crappies spawn at. Wish I could figure out how to cut n paste on mobile. Basically, fish go into shallows after first ice out until the water hits high 50s. These fish are not spawing when they are in all those shallows bays or weedbeds.. I.E.. Pymie @ Wislon, Padanaram or Stewart's, MC at Arthur or any other place we have been getting them this time of year. This is a common mistake in thought. They will then move to spawing areas, males first, at around 60. Its all over at 70 degrees

Wassuup with the fuel line Dave? Leaking fittings, primer bulb, ???

With water temps nearing prespawn, fish the coves and other shallower water on the north sides/ends of the lake. Sun still lower in the southern sky warms the north shoreline first.

Always begin fishing the shallow ends of a lake moving toward the deeper end as those waters warm.

Bass also spawn when water temps aproach mid to upper 60s followed by gills doing their thing.

Walleye, perch, trout like the temps mid 40s.

Now if I can just figure out how to catch the stupid fish.

Leaking at primer bulb. Started right up ran to our spot fine then when we wanted to make our next drift it wouldnt even sputter. Tried the bulb and it was as hard as a rock. Changed connectors at both ends same thing happened. I pulled the fuel line off at the filter and no gas is reaching the motor.

Re: PYMY 2020/05/03 08:53:31 (permalink)
Outasync good Grief that had to suck. You guys finally get out and having to deal with that.

Walmart has some decent fuel lines. I've been running an Attwood for a couple years now with no problems.

Some reason(s) to not get gas from the tank to the motor would be the check valve sticking in the primer bulb and preventing a steady prime; the screen on the pick-up tube in the tank is plugged; a hole or crack in the pick-up tube; the pick-up tube dropped in the tank; orrrrrr the o-ring in the connector at the tank is leaking. Also the tank vent being closed or plugged or the tank is empty.

You said you changed connectors so I'm assuming you changed the supply line end for end and still no luck so no issue with the line hooked-up bass ackwards....

Also, primer bulbs do become brittle overtime and while it may feel like there is a prime, it's actually the bulb is shot.

Soooo, I don't know, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

The primer bulb went from soft to totally rock hard and wouldnt soften again until both connectors were off the line. Even with the connectors off it was staying hard. This was an attwood line that was 1 1/2 years old. By the time i got home the bulb was soft again and seemed to function properly

Worked on my boat in the driveway last night.  Motor would run for awhile then quit.  Took cover off and noticed when I would pump the bulb, fuel would leak at the fuel pump cover.  So, hopefully the $15 Amazon version of a new fuel pump will work.  If not, I'll order the cover for almost the same at marineengine.com.

I have started running E free in my small engines but unfortunately, I think my rototiller is an unfortunate victim of E-10.  I should have bought a new carb for it but that costs almost as much as a new rototiller (small one).  Limped it through this year but I'll need to bite the bullet next year.

The boat motor is an '83 johnson 15 hp.  Most plastic on it is pretty brittle at this point so could have been e-10 or could have just been age.

I have a Citgo right by me at Rt108n388 . Its been 4.15 gal lately. Most I spend at a time is when I need to fill the Exmark up. My Yamaha 20 sips the gas for sure. So 3 gallons last me 2 trips out Moraine most times. The other little stuff, heck that 2 gallon can I mix lasts me half a summer. Its well worth the extra money, IMO. Everything seems to run much better on it.

If you cant find any Efree, a high quality stabilizer like Lucas Ethanol Fuel Conditioner will work.

If you have an older fuel line and have been running ethanol in it, better check it.  The ethanol will dissolve the inner lining on older fuel lines.  I checked mine last year, and found the inside full of a black pasty gunk like thin tar!  I replaced my whole line with new marine grade hose that is designed to run with ethanol.  I also run STAR enzyme in the tank and that helps.  New bulbs too.  After that, the sluggish starts quit and now she fires up right away.
Hope that helps.

try this it has worked for me, when you prime your bulb hold it vertical with the arrow facing up, your bulb has two one way valves in it and if the springs are weak holding it this way  will allow gravity to assist in them closing, when you restart your engine after having it shut off while fishing do it again, just because your primer bulb is hard does not necessarily mean it is working properly but this will help if the springs are weak, of course buying a new one will fix the problem but i would suggest to always prime your bulb this way
