Went up to linesville area thursday. Stewart bay was loaded with boats. Figured why not join in. Stayed on the out skirts of the pack. Put 17 fish in the box. 4 were crappies. The rest perch and gills. Jigs did the job for me. Couldnt believe how packed those docks were.

Go get 'em Eman! I've done some wading with limited success. Did hook about an 8lb carp on my light panfishing tackle over the weekend which made for some fun times while standing chest deep in the lake.

We will find out very soon if that bite is over. Cold weather might have them screwed up some. No consistency. We aren't finding the crappies either

Debating going up tonight but i broke the last of my hot color. Ordered 6 last year and every one the lip broke off. Almost all in the first hour of use. No slapping on the water or anything. Id hit bottom or a branch and bam floating rap.

Re: PYMY 2020/04/12 18:46:52 (permalink)
I quit buying Raps long ago, for that very reason. Until that time, Rapala was my favorite go to lure for French Creek and the Allegheny River.

Like your's, the lips broke off in a matter of one or two uses.

I think I still have a couple in my 'river' box I tried replacing the lips.

Ask me how that worked out.๐Ÿ˜‚

Looking good right now, I got 60 degrees and no wind at my place. Calm before the storm, good time to try.

Go get em.

Re: PYMY 2020/04/12 21:06:58 (permalink)
Did some drift fishing on the north end this afternoon. Lost one heavy fish and managed to miss 3 other solid bites. I must be rusty. The steady south wind and white caps finally pushed me and the dog outta the spot after about an hour and a half. Probably would have stayed, but the pooch was giving me the evil eye since she was getting soaked every time I moved the boat. Oh well, probably don't need to get soaked and sit in the wind anyway. If I get a sniffle from being out fishing folks will think I got the Covid.

On the plus side, the motor fired right up for its maiden 2020 voyage. On the down side, I think my fish finder finally shat the bed after many years of service. Time to start looking for another.

Tight lines everyone!

Re: PYMY 2020/04/13 08:54:15 (permalink)
Just curious about the Raps comin' apart. What Raps are we talkin' about? Love those Scatter Raps, and believe it or not, they'll get down to 20' trolling in the river, and I've cracked them into umteen snags and rocks and if snagged, I just turn around and go back up above it and they float loose. Haven't lost one yet, but my oldest son has thrown 3 of them away for broken lips, and the youngest son trashed 2 of them. They buy lots of them 'cause they're so productive in the river, and two of them have held muskies and landed them. So, if you're talkin' about the Scatter Rap, maybe we sometimes buy from a "bad lot"? I'm not ready to condemn the whole line yet. BTW, never lost or broke a Tail Dancer yet either. Don't really want to; those Tail Dancers are nearly $12 each. LOL!

BTW, yesterday was my first trip out for the year with both boys in Roger's boat. Sure enough, 15 minutes on the river and Scott put a 41" Muskie into the boat. The next 6 hours was pretty much a bust; few small 'eyes, one little smallmouth, and about a 6 pound drum. Tight lines!

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

emitch congratulation to your boy on the Musky. Great to hear y'all made it out and did some catchin to boot.

My "Raps" are the "Original" F series (minnow, etc). Always my go to bait, until the the problem with them breaking. Haven't bought one since. I have however, purchased (5yrs ago +/-) the jointed Rap J13s and they (some still NITB), remain lost, somewhere among my toys.

The bills on Rapalas breaking is not a new problem. The same subject was discussed on the boards 4 years ago. A quick search of the internet will reveal the problem with "Rapala" failures started well before that.

I have broken lips on many Rapalas. I had the lip of a tail dancer come off on a Walleye in the net last spring. I took it home and used 2 part Epoxy and have caught a few more Eyes with it. I have fixed a few that were just lose f series with epoxy. Others have simply broke off. I growl inside and test my refrain of vocal expletive's when that happens. I always look around for a teacher with a bar of soap when I slip.

Im using f11. I seem to have more problems with the red lips than the clear. I hit a tree limb 3x on a fresh out of the box rap and it broke. I think it was just a bad lot from a reseller so im not too upset about it. Still have 14 raps i carry night fishing and 4 others coming to replace the broken one

Speculation years ago was aimed at the material used in making the bill for a Rap fishing lure, coming from China.

Rapala lures, once took a beating, without breakage and ya didn't have to retune em like with metal bills. ๐Ÿ™„ 'cept maybe sand the burrs off, the edge of the bills, caused by banging rocks and debris cause ya used the lure where ya shouldn't ov.

Wind starting to kick up pretty good around my place. Rain is coming horizontal but skys to the west saying... here come da cold front.

Be safe, stay well, tight lines in these trying times.
