The winds 3 to 4 Sunday changes to 8 to 9.  It was dead calm for a few minutes, then crazy gusts for a few minutes.  Famous Arthur wind that blows all directions at once also.  Love that.  Not a cloud in the sky at least.

OMG BOAT WITH NO BIG MOTOR RULES!!!   Seriously.  F that big motor.  My boat actually steers now.  Gained one mph also.  Though the balance is a bit weird now without that weight... buddy can't stay in the front while moving.  Both of us mid-boat was the best performance.  So nice to only have one control box in the right spot, not having to F with the tie rod, the motor transom savers, etc.

Water was 51 degrees on the main lake and got up to 55 in the shallows.  Fishing was slow caught a couple nice ones.  Had one nice take that felt like a decent cat but he spit the hook.  No pike sadly.  Might be a bit late for them.  Was hoping the crappie would be spawning, bit early for them though.  Pretty day to be on the lake.

Oh, docks aren't in yet by the way.  Which is fun with a 20' boat.  Lake is a bit high but not crazy high.  Maybe 6 inches.

Makes a difference what you are fishing for and how, especially early in the season.  Example: I can catch wipers in shallow water in summer, but those guys are down deep right now.  And so is the bait.

Barometer is falling tomorrow morning so hoping it will be a good day. Going to try trolling fatheads deep for crappie and maybe some cranks for wipers. Will see how it goes!

Not sure I can get behind C&R for walleye.  Unless the R is into hot grease...

Beautiful morning. No wind and just a little cool. Had the lake to myself. Water temp was 50.

Trolled fatheads and crankbaits around the dam and 422 bridge but no real luck. Caught a few little perch in about 30 fow by the dam. Not a banner day but dusted the skunk off of the season day one! Called it quits around noon. My guess is that it's still a little cool.

Now if I could just raid Bighead's tackle box of magical jerkbaits...

thanks for the updates.

ive fished three different rivers/lakes this year, and none of them had docks in.  they were just sitting there on shore.  drives me nuts.  are all the WCOs that busy checking stringers that they cant put docks in?

love squishing through mud to get onto the boat.

Report it anyway. Give the WCO’s something to look for. I’d be all for a 1 fish @ 28” limit for wipers. Not sure how much life they have left after 28”. Might as well be table fare at that point. Would give much more chance of those 30”ers.
Walleye aren’t reproducing on their own in Arthur either, or at least enough to sustain. They stock a ton of them... They are basically the same put and take fish as the wipers. But not nearly as fun to catch, and taste a lot better!

P  T  I have caught  striper's in the mid 30's and they would get a fair amount bigger. I have pulled Hybrids out of the river even bigger more closer to 40 inch.  As far as the Walleye your KIDDING RIGHT???  they are just about over running the lake much like the channel cats that they continuously keep FREAKING stocking. The ranger told me that the Walleye's reproduce just fine in the lake, But I asked him I wasn't sure of so seeing average depth is only 8 feet. So I asked him why all the freaking walleye and channel's stocking. Answer was for the public and to Have as many people fishing the lake as possible.  Hmmm Guess it's all about the money Ehhh
OH yeah how about all the kayak's running around at night with the smallest lights possible that you can't see until your right on them in the middle of the lake   NICE

Re: Arthur! 2018/04/29 08:47:46 (permalink)
I recall someone posting something many years ago about walleye reproduction, that looked pretty scientific... Allegheny River has about as ideal as can be, and would only have enough natural reproduction to sustain a lake the size and pressure as Arthur. Something about Arthur not consistently in the temp zone during spawning and filled with silt. Not all that much different than Pymie, which stays in that temp zone longer and much larger lake without wipers there to pick off the young. Shenango River has much better walleye spawning habitat, and look what happened there without stocking. Not sure where you are fishing on Arthur to consistently be overrun with eyes. I talk to a lot of guys that specifically target eyes, and would love to know! I’d sell my cast net and stop fishing for late night wipers if I could box a walleye or two per trip.

Haven't been out this year yet but last year it seemed like the small wipers(12-15 inches) were everywhere. As for the eyes, put fish in the box every trip(once or twice a week May-August), but wouldn't say we ever hammered them. Will be out Saturday n send a report after.

PT You That I will Never give up any info on HOW<WHERE and WHAT TO USE  Well If your Willing to Pay Maybe Id Give up some info   LOL  Remember It Is The Dead Sea HUH !! But they are there in HUGE numbers. Ya know just because people fish specifically for walleye's really doesn't mean they are not there EH. I will say that Arthur fishes quite strange compared to most lakes. Chris the stocking report from park office shows they stocked cats as of 2016. They have not put up new stocking reports for 17 or 18 as of yet. The officer I talked to said they are going to be putting out a more updated report sometime this year.  As far as Cats Heck you can catch them with just about any kind of bait  live, dead, lures, Top water lures at night. Here is a freebie  4" bomber CLOWN COLOR Just about anywhere on the lake at night  Cast let set still maybe a giggle very couple.  Have fun get the hooks out   LOL   By the way Chris was that YOU Friday night near 2ish on shore ???

I stand corrected Chris your right about them not stocking cats. The last year as far as this report I just got from the park office was in 2013.

Dam speaking of catfish...........

The blue catfish weighed in at 120 pounds, the FWC said.  (FWC photo by Rebekah Nelson)

A Florida fisherman recently caught a 120-pound blue catfish in the state’s panhandle, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) announced on Monday.
While fishing on the Choctawhatchee River, Joel Singletary snagged the massive creature on his trotline. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to pull it onto his boat, but then the “adrenaline kicked in enabling him to pull the behemoth fish onboard,” according to the FWC.

Pretty much the same.  I've caught a few stockies (size of small perch) and ONE keeper in all my years.  And I was like "oh look, a walleye.  He's pretty small..." but he measured!  I was pretty stoked.  To be fair I haven't done much fishing for them, just incidental.  Gonna give it a go Saturday.  And then bail and panfish.
