I took some advice from here and started peas last week in peat pots. Normally I don't like them as they tend to mold but I did want to try and get a jumpstart with the peas.
With the weather looking like spring this week, I'm hoping to get the pots into a garden bed maybe next Sunday.

With peat pots, would it be wise to cut most of the bottom out so the roots can expand into the soil ?

My tomato plants haven't grown much lately as the area they are in is kinda cool, approx 55 degrees.
That greenhouse project is definitely a go right after I finish up with stripers in late may.

Worked a flat while watching some hoops. Had a great return on it, I'd say maybe a dozen duds out of the 72 cells. I have another to do maybe later today.

Looking good Pen. πŸ‘ I start in 4" flats and tend not to transplant. Eliminating 1 step.
The garlic beds are cranking. Don't see any dead plants from fall.
Probably be another 2 weeks before I pull straw back.

Yeah the Peat Moss pots mold to much for me if keeping indoors very long. Son planted 6 Apple trees the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utGFrz1ephc

Got through that 2nd flat today. Looks like I'm going to have to expand my "nursery " area. πŸ™„. Started picklebush and straight 8 cukes. I'm planning on working the raised bed tomorrow. Get that lettuce and herbs in. Looks like this really cold is over 🀞.

Jason, That room you are working in looks spotless. How did you get the  wife to let you bring the dirt in??

Heading to camp on Thursday, maybe there will be a dump load of poop in the garden. Calling for rain so will have to wait to spread and till though. Son is supposed to get a pallet of lime from his buddy that works at the limestone mine about a mile away from his place in Harrisville.

Lol. That's the kitchen table and she wasn't home. πŸ˜†. The lights are in the unfinished side of the basement.

Maybe it's a sickness or just my latest addiction, but I just repotted another flat of tomatoes 🀯. I'm done for first "flight". My next project is gonna be some of the stuff I normally plant seeds directly. Let yinz know how that works out. I'm thinking we have atleast another 45 days. 🀞

Wife went to  Dr last Summer and he had a hundred or more 8 ft plus Hollyhock around the office--she loved them.
When they matured I went and gathered some seed and planted a few dozen right  away.
They got about a foot tall before Winter and were last in the yard to die off, -
They are already popping up for this season--so far about 75% are showing,
Understand they will mature on the second year and had wondered if that first planting might fool mother nature a bit lol

Question on these new LED lights. Just picked up a couple with blue and red light settings. Was reading up that says blue spectrum are good for seeds and starter plants where as the red are good for flowers and fruits. Any opinions or suggestions on if that's correct? Thanks Duuds.

I'm going to go back to the old days of indoor growing before LED. We used florescent lights that gave off mostly blue spectrum. That prompted growth during the growing stage. Once the plants matured, we used high pressure sodium lights which were in the red spectrum which prompted flowering and were for the finishing stage.

In today era, my LED lights have incorporated all spectrums at once but seem heavier towards the blue, even though they look purple.
If yours only have a choice of either, I'd go with blue. They will be going outside anyway once conditions improve

Much appreciated HT.
Right now I'm up to 125 tomato plants. Romas, San Marzanos, a German Plum type and Big Boys. With our growing season changing every year, September being the new August, I will start a flat or Heirlooms and Beef Steaks around the end of May. My daughter brought some plants home from work last July that I stuck in ground. We had tomatoes until October. I still haven't done that raised bed yet, maybe this week. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I can't get too excited about my garden right now. I don't have the setup like in the past for starting my seeds and yesterday we had snow and freezing rain.
A few years back I did over 100 tomato plants and it was WAY more than we could keep up with during harvest and canning.
I believe last year we had around 60 plants and even though we use sauce regularly, we still have about 20 quarts left.
Right now I have 50 plants growing and that seems like the right amount for us.

I do agree and see our local farm start tomatoes in the field around mid June with a September harvest. That I may do as well.
