open water - pike question

i've heard and read about pike in the bay once the bay is ice free.  i've never been up for it but would like to give it a shot.  do the pike start hitting as soon as the ice is off the bay?  or does it take some time?

They eat all winter and under the ice too.  Guys have been catching them sporadically even off of Chestnut while ice fishing.  As soon as you can get boat out, they are catchable...

I caught one through ice few weeks ago and heard of 2 nice ones being caught through ice this past weekend.
My question is when will the ice be gone in bay any predictions???
We plan on being out there asap need to do a few things with boat before.

Last year I started February 22 in the bay. About mid March we started catching pike and bass. The bay was relatively ice free except for a week, then in March the head of the bay froze out to 12' fow.

thanks for the input.  last couple of years have been a roller coaster ride transitioning from winter to spring.

i checked some web cams in the erie area.  it's hard to tell from the camera angles the ice-out status of the bay.

No the ice isn't gone from the bay. Some open water some ice and guys are still getting on Misery bay. Someone almost had me heading up tomorrow but I'm on hold till it's completely gone. I called a bait shop today and got the true facts.

It's called a southwest wind(yesterday).
Today, exact opposite, Northeast wind...ice blew back in all over the south shore.
My buddy fished the Bay today, out of a boat, and easily boxed
