Steelhead fishing so far

I know plenty of fishing is still ahead of us, but how do you guys feel the run has been this year? Personally I've done fairly well with the low rain totals. Always nice to get out . Tight lines

Been mup twice this year.  Columbus Day with my boys and last Monday, Oct. 23, by myself.

Both trips have been pretty good so far.  C-Day had murky waters for most of the day, so it was hard to say what was there, but my boys both tangled with plenty of fish and others were catching them consistently.  Pretty good day for early October.

Last Monday was as low and as clear as I recall seeing this late into October, but boy were there piles of fish on the lower ends of streams.  Worked my way pretty well upstream on one trib, and although fish were largely confined to deeper holes/runs, I thought there were pretty good numbers of 'em there considering that conditions haven't been real conducive to getting them upstream.  Felt enough head shakes on the end of my line to consider it a very good day.

Heading back Thursday evening to fish Friday, for my older son's 14th birthday.  Sounds like there are still good numbers of fish trickling in from various reports in various places, but they're getting pounded pretty good.

This is only my 3rd stream Steelhead season, so I'm still pretty much an amateur. But, in 8 days on the water this Fall (2-8 hours per day), I've landed 26 fish and lost 10, two that I've landed have been over 10 pounds as well. So, for me personally, it's been a great season so far. Runs this year seem to be better than 2016 and way better than 2015.

Seems good so far. Seeing a lot of bigger fish this year too, so that's always good. Last year I caught a lot of sub-par fish.

I personally am doing very good. I have been doing good in the lake with the fly rod when I able to fish it. The runs seem denser as far as fish numbers. I caught a 10 pounder in the lake this year and that was really fun haha

Father reported live from an east side trib yesterday, he missed a bunch and caught 8, including one that was over 10 pounds.

To me, average = good.
If you compare this year to the last two years, Then this year has been great.
But then we got a lot more rain in Oct then you guys did in Erie

Boy it's been awfully quiet around here lately.  No one complaining about reduced numbers of fish from the good ole days or the crowds this year.  The Epic run of 2017 must be underway!  Guess I'll find out for myself next week, when I take my first trip of the year.

It's always quiet around here, lately.  It's a crowd if they are eight signed in, any night.

Should be good next week, even the east side. The three inch rainfall we got Sunday really blew the east side creeks out. The mouth of Twenty Mile got blown out, and is wide open now.   Even Twelve Mile got opened up.  It was fully closed off with large mounds of gravel.

Mouth of 16 Mile is wide open also, sand bar got completely washed out.  Seen rocks the size of cars moved and stacked.
