The money to purchase the property was approved by the Fish Commission, way back in January, but evidently the Lake Erie Conservancy did not come up with their half, since that seems to be the last thing that happened on this subject. Even though the local rag said it was a done deal in April. There is actually no way to access the creek from what I can see. At least there isn't without the Commission clearing a road, or a path to the creek. http://www.goerie.com/spo...ooked-conneaut-creeks#

There are two trails down into the gorge. Parking on Beckman Rd. the one old trail parallels I -90 along the fence of the interstate and drops right down under the I-90 bridge. You must walk across the large field on top near the cell tower before getting to the trail. (long walk and narrow at first ) The second trail is a little farther south on Beckman and borders the property line and actually may not be a Gilmore property trail but it drops all the way down almost to Little Elk. It was gated on the top with posted signs when the private fishing club leased it. It too is a long hike down even longer coming out ! I've made tons of trips in and out back in the late 80's on up to about 2004 when it got posted. Back in the day it had at least 8 good holes and runs that held fish steady all through winter. It's all woods and cliff banks and very pristine. Hard to say what it looks and holds today 20 years later. No doubt one of the nicest areas on Elk to fish back then.    .

:-) Well, 15 or 20 years ago, I might have tried that, but I'm getting ollllld. Sure looks like nice water though. Maybe the Fish Commission or Coservancy will put a parking lot or clear a road, like they did for the land they bought between Sterretania and Rick Rd. That's on West Rd. There's supposed to be another parking access on Pfeffer Rd. but I can't find it. Thanks for the photos, Captain! Sure looks nice. The main part of the farm, with the big barn is a nice area. My niece had her wedding there last September.

Yep! Me too! I haven't fished upper Twenty in a while because I don't want to walk back up that hill on the way back.

Walk up from Greens property that's how we access the older easement and now this area. Getting an in with the property owners and keeping folks out is SOP for guides on the Erie tribs.

  Yea Pete it's about 3/4 mile walk from the road down to the best holes...not easy with waders and low light. Hiking out it's a steep climb...not for us old dogs and those out of shape. I'll let these young dudes have fun....hope to see some pics in the future.
