Was out this evening looking for a doe in Allegheny County. Been doing pretty good seeing bucks but no doe. Had a nice 8 point cruise by me at 10 yards at 3:30. If I still had a buck tag, I would have shot him.

Big Tuna
\After a weird season we took 3 bucks in 10 days. Could have been 4 but I left a small 8pts go on the last day. Skill? Luck? Don't know but where both happy.I guess I'll be in the Pa.woods for the opening of gun season. My backorder new gun came in at Cabelas Wheeling store so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. 6.5 Creedmore, yea just what I need another deer rifle.lol

Man, I don't know BT . . . all these stories of big bucks and jumbo perch in Erie and we never see any proof of em.

Haha, just joking man.  Congrats to you and your son on another successful season!

HE SAID IT TUNA, it's all his fault but that's OK the jokes on him, 'cause the rest of us already knew "it don't count if there ain't no pictures".  So... ha hah on him, huh?

ummmm whyyyy do I feel, I might be sorry, I said that.

I saw plenty of nice bucks this year. No real adrenaline squinters but respectable 16" 8pts and there abouts. The last two days of archery I saw 9 different bucks and I believe all were legal. I had an enjoyable season without it ending up being a drag.

Ya don't have to tell me about the old stuff.  Just wish the PGC would take that into consideration regarding the stupid Antler Restrictions.  Can't tell ya how many non-legals I've had to pass up in my own back yard, only to see it shot a few hundred feet from me or, hanging on a neighboring Amish barn. I just ain't got the desire to cause myself a heart attack in pursuit of that, behind every tree, trophy buck!   Come to think of it, I've about lost the desire to hunt.

Thanks for sharing your hunting.

Well BT once again I find us in agreement. Beside needing to count points on a moving deer they recommend I have a babysitter so need to say I lost interest.

Jigs the babysitter part paints a darned good picture and soon enough, whats left of the young hunting community, will see that picture too.  It's almost like, the PGC has become PETA whose goal it is, to destroy the heritage of hunting in PA.  But oh well, it's now off to bigger and better things.  At least I don't have to fish by a entirely different set of standards.... at least not yet.

Yes very nice bucks ... congrats ! Do agree with you jigs on the counting pts on a running deer kinda hard to do 😜... have not lost the desire for the hunt but I don’t Hit it as hard as I once did . The aging factor does have a lot with my decision though. I’m lucky that I can drive right to my one hunting shanty ( as I call it ) it is located right at the corner of a field covering the crab Apple trees area. I keep my trailer out there all bow & rifle season so not much dragging there. My other shanty is a little deeper in the woods but there is a road to it so if I get lucky or skill 😜... not much dragging either 50 or 60 yds to field and get my trailer ....most of my hunts are by myself so I do what works for me. I do get to hunt with my son a few days in rifle season depends on his work though ... ok enough from this old guy ..... good luck guys

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/11/19 13:03:20 (permalink)
Yesir, yinz remember back in the day the conversation would be about the big buck that was sighted in John Q Farmer's south forty, the excitement of going to the gun range to sight in, the smell of burnt gun powder, gun oil and nitro solvent.  The talk of new rifles, scopes and, ammo hitting the market.  The drooling as we rifled through the gun catalogs which where actually J.C Penney, Sears, Monkey Ward and the like.  Mercy sake, if ya went into any of those stores today and mentioned gun, ya would have the swat team in your face.

Today, the talk is about the points, not on a buck but on a game.  The excitement is over wireless controllers, the smell of electronic ozone and nachos with cheese warming in the microwave.  Drooling no longer exist, slobbering becomes the result, waiting for the announcement of new Xbox controllers and iphones, while browsing page upon page over the internet, searching Amazon, ebay, and overstocked.com eager to find "free shipping" and same day delivery.

Congratulation PGC, I think yinz achieved your goal of a "Big Buck Hunter", behind every Christmas Tree.

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/11/19 18:25:42 (permalink)
Those are great deer. Congratulations to all that scored.

My group did right around average kill rate (50% give or take) this archery on bucks. I did not shoot. I passed 7 legal bucks. Just not what I was after. Still plenty of time.

I am a bit confused on the counting points comments. I can see that as a possible rifle hunting issue, maybe I'm different in that I would not shoot a moving deer in archery and this is an archery thread... I could have missed something earlier in the post. But if the deer doesn't stop I feel there is little chance for a shot so it wouldn't matter on the number of points?

I has a question about deer stands and deer blinds.  Are they considered one and the same and if not, is the orange banner required to be displayed within 15 ft of the deer stand during regular firearms season?

Jigs that's what I thought too.   That's why I got a blind that comes prevented and it has a place to store firewood and other stuff under the seat.   Still have to cut the shooting windows in where they fit me best.  Just wished it would have been available in mossy oak or sumptin.

100 FO visible 360 degrees must be displayed within 15ft of enclosed blind during rifle deer season. Hunter inside must also wear the required 250.

The above examples are all considered enclosed blinds.

Pgc could clean up here in amish country.
Not 1 speck of orange on the 6-8 high house that ring our property and half of them have salt licks.
