i was told by a fly fisherman back in the fall on a 40 fish day that i was catching the dumb ones with my jigs and flatfish lures. he caught only 2 "smart" ones all day on his flies. i then started floating flies and landed 4 in 20 minutes. i dont hold that guy against his fellow fly fishermen.

The guy really needs to rethink his logic. If you were catching only the dumb fish with easy techniques than he must have been only catching the really really dumb fish with his more difficult techniques???
