I'm bummed

a bass pond appx 3 acres in size  in the middle of nowhere I've fished for over 30 years appears to be kaput

it gets little to no fishing pressure ...none really, cause very few know it even exists .
and only a handful of people  have permission to be on the 83 acre landlocked parcel
and they're deer hunters, not anglers

anyway, I've seen the ebb and flow of average bass size fluctuate over the 30 years I've fished it .
be a few years of average size 1 to 1.5 pounders or a few years of 2.5 to 3  pound average or a few years of 1/2 to 3/4 pound dinks
ALWAYS lots of fish to catch though, and the "big fish" year cycles are worth the mile hike thru the woods.
cause not only will a decent   angler hook a couple dozen 3 pounders in a few hours, but a few will be 4+ pound, and   a legit 5+ pound hog or two can happen on any given outing as well

Only fished it once or twice since 2012 (the last big fish cycle)

I fished it several times this spring so far ...appears there's big trubble in paradise.
There's no fish to speak of
even the previous swarms of bluegill pecking at my plastics, or playing in the flats aren't there.
at minimum, I should be seeing several gils chasing my u-tail worm as I retrieve it to shore and out for another cast...but I'm not.
In three trips and maybe a total of 6 hours fishing, I've had one tiny peck (that I'm sure was a little 'gil)
and one chase at shore...a tiny minnow size "something" fish
Sump'um is WAY wrong

It's not a very deep pond.
I fear those two back to back bitter/frigid  winters  3 and 4 years ago were too much and crashed the population

I fish a couple of small honey holes like that, a couple of which are very shallow and pretty much freeze nearly top to bottom in harsh winters.  I've seen no effects on the fishin' in 'em.

Good possibility some fish eatin' critters have taken up residence there, especially if there's some crick or sumpthin' that feeds it/flows out of it and eventually connects to a bigger water source.  Couple of otters or minks could have a feast in there, if it's pretty isolated and not many folks around.  Have a friend who was just telling me about his parents' pond getting cleaned out by otters over the past few years.

I'm sure no one fished it out
no one really fishes it 'cept the ducks, coons,  muskrats and turtles

    BUTT BUTT BUTT....
BTDT,  Guess hoo has been timbering the adjoining wood lot ??
Oh my...a whole gaggle of Yoaders got their mill camp set up in the woods just 200 yards away
    FOR REAL ..LOL

seriously, I know it's not that.
No evidence of fishing this spring.
No human foot prints on the paths and banks

AND..even a whole hoard of Yoaders couldn't fish it out so quick
    Unless they used dynamite.....

I've heard of ponds getting wiped out by heat...no oxygen...ponds were fine for years then wham instant death. They say a good pond should be at least 10 ft. deep in sections to keep fish safe from low oxygen during Winter and Summer.

Butt what about ice fishing by der Yoaders yah? Not cold enough long enough to freeze der pond to der bottom yah? Butt cold enough to put ice on der surface yah?

OK, I'll stop it.... for now.

Could be any one, or a combination, of the reasons for the fish to be gone. All good guesses.

    Yah?😜

maybe a hard freeze  os the extreme oppositehot weather drought conditions   plus low dissolved oxygen levels

You people are definitely over thinking this!! There's a very simple explanation. Those fish where Democrats and heard Trump was going to drain the Swamp and they simply wanted a head start! Case solved!

Sounds like a natural correction with better things to come...seen it..sucks but will happen...stay healthy enough to enjoy it when it happens
