Should have ET that pike.  Minus the pesky bones they are quite tasty.

Braved the 14 mph ESE winds today. Stupid me.

Water wasn't exceptionally rough but the wind was merciless from the time I started, bright and early noonish, until leaving around 5.

Water is a bit high and the surface temps averaged 62.5 degrees F.

Except for the clay being washed along the shorelines the water seemed clear. Jigs could be seen from 18" to 2 feet below the surface.

Note to journal: ESE winds at 14mph; screw fishing Shenango.

fished the golden run area yesterday. caught over fifty crappies with most being just under 9". threw all of them back but it was fun catching them. theres an amazing number of fish in this lake. if you like eating your fish with bones in them, these fish are the perfect size.

No I like fillets. Hope all lakes adopt a size length and limit of 20 fish. It's ridiculous the over harvest of small Panfish.

Actually, there is some talk about not harvesting the big panfish and taking those 9" fish instead.  Because the 12" plus fish are the strongest breeding stock or something like that.  I'll have to look for the article.  You won't run Shenango out of crappie eating all the slot fish you catch.  And 9" crappies have a reasonable fillet.

On another Shenango Lake topic.... I watched several kayakers paddling across the middle of the lake the other day. Low profile as they are and small, all I can say is they are taking a serious  chance on a no limit horsepower lake. This would be my last choice in such a small craft especially out in the middle. There are some powerful boats running that lake at a high rate of speed. The wakes are bad enough off of these bigger boats but the speed they are moving won't give either much time for correction. Just a heads up !

Kayakers are insane.  Had a lady on Arthur almost ram our pontoon because she "didn't see us."  20' of pontoon boat with rods everywhere and two adults on it in broad daylight.  I won't mention them clogging up the launches with their bull****.  Oh wait, yes I did.  The kind of people kayaking across the middle of Shenango won't be missed when the hairy-chested speed boater plows them.

We had kayaks come within 3 ft of our boat at Wilhelm last year while bass fishing. Lady smiled and said good morning... I was tempted to flip my jig at her head

NWS has posted flood warnings saying minor flooding occurring in the Greenville area with another 1/2" of rain could be expected for a total of 2 1/2" in some areas.

With all that rain to the north, I'm thinking Shenango Campers are gonna be keeping a all night vigil.

Fishin' probably gonna suck for few days too... stupid fish!

Ken I hear what your saying. As of this time yesterday Golden Run Access and the swim beach are now open with the Clark launch remaining closed.

Lake level still 2 ft. above normal summer pool with all seven sluice gates flowing.

Weather dudes calling for "possible" severe thunderstorms with strong winds today to the north, of Shenango Lake up through and including Pymatuning.

Rode up 846 on my way to Pymatuning. Slowed down when I came to the bridge and looked at Shenango. It looked like chocolate milk. Rick Como is still catching stripers in that mess.

Chauncy thanks for the heads-up. I was thinkin I could maybe get out of the wind somewhere on Shenango tomorrow. Sounds like I should think elsewhere.

Buddy from Ohio wanted to come over and fish Shenango. Went out yesterday. Fishing sucked. Combined, we put seven keepers in the box out of thirty caught. Nothing bigger than 9". Maybe we should have trolled crankbaits cause the jig bite just didn't put any big crappies in the box.

Thanks Chauncy, I see by thier Facebook page the lake level has returned to normal summer pool.

Weather looking good next few days with temps heading into upper eighties.

Gonna be a lotta activity on Shenango me thinks.

Wilhelm and Pymatuning here I come.

Anybody spending time chasing fish on this lake lately? Or has the jetskis and speed boats chased you away?

Chauncy I been watching the water level, giving it some time to settle down before giving Shenango a try. Looks like I might be watching it for a while longer after today.

Drove over the causeway this past weekend and at that time I thought there was a regatta taking place on Shenango. I ain't seen that much boat traffic on the water since the last time I visited Christmas in July. Did somebody change the date this year and maybe forgot to, send me a memo?

Rain keeps pumpin up from the South West I betcha there's gonna be a couple launch sites closed along with the beach tomorrow.

Lake level this past Sat. was still a half foot over summer pool. May be the someway this coming Sat.

Don't think I'm gonna be trying my luck till midweek, next week, on the lake.

Stupid rain!!!!

Lake level at 1.58' over norm with gates 1 - 7 open to 1.5 ft each.

Clark boat launch is closed as of this morning.

Anybody partake in the Frisbie flinging this past weekend? I forgot, I went to a steam engine show muup north. Awesome machines.

Don't forget "Christmas in July" at the marina this coming Saturday. Don't know if its still done but, folks use to decorate thier boat for the festivities.

Last but not least, if visiting the park, keep an eye open for Bobber.

Tight lines and good times.
