Do the head boats get into the spring bay perch action?  I don't trust my trailer to make that far of a run.

Sometimes, in late spring they do, if the Bay fishing is still good.
It's usually over by that point and the better fishing is out in the lake.

Anyone have a current water temp for the bay and/or main lake? We’re launching for the season this coming Saturday and while it looks like it’ll be too windy for Lake Trout off North East, I’m hoping the bay will be fishable. I’d like to at least do a run down troll in PIB to make sure all the equipment is functioning properly for the year. Maybe get into some Steelhead trolling spoons and plugs or casting cranks and soft plastics near the city.

The weather has been terrible this late winter/ spring. What a difference a year makes.lol  I guess that's OK, still working on the  50 bags of perch from last year. Introduced a bag of 12"-14" jumbo's  to the deep fryer yesterday,Cajun style. The family commented that they still taste unbelievable.

We put in for the season this morning and conditions were awful. Howling wind and frigid air, felt like a tornado was ready to touch down any moment haha. Never even made it out to the bay and had enough trouble getting into our slip without breaking anything. Ready for next weekend, though.

Anyone else have their boat in the water already? Looking at the weather for the rest of this week, I’m a bit concerned with my engine block freezing by the time we get up there Saturday morning. Water temp in our marina was 45° as of this past Saturday, but I’m sure it’s been/is dropping all week and air temps are predicted to dip down to 30-32° for a few hours on certain mornings. Maybe I’m just being paranoid. I can’t recall a single year we’ve been fishing up here that April has been so cold.

If you have electric at your slip you may consider hanging a drag light under the engine cover, I don't know how cold it is supposed to be and for how long. Some folks throw an insulating blanket over the engine to help and pour some antifreeze in the bilge.

If I lived in the area I’d definitely have a heater in there by now. Unfortunately, I’m two hours south and won’t be up until late Friday night. The highest temp I see for this week is 40° with it being 33-38° most of the time. The freezing stretches I see are 6 hours of 31-32° Friday afternoon and 5 hours of 30-32° Saturday morning. I do have a battery charger on board that’s hooked up to shore power and produces a small amount of heat, so I’m hoping that marginally helps. In the future I’ll probably stick something that makes heat in the boat all week for the first few weeks of April. I’d probably put money on it being fine (knock on wood), but 5K for a new block isn’t in my budget right now haha.
