elk creek

Hey, First off being new to the board I would like to say wow!  This is one incredible forum and fisherie is one hell of a site!  For my post hopefully someone can help.  I'm from western, NY and plan on making the trip up to fish elk for the first time.  After the drive and getting my license I was wondering if there is any shot of getting out on Elk come friday.  I know no one is a fortune teller, however from the looks of things and if we don't get punished with much more rain do you think the trip will be worth while friday being every stream out here is passing the flood stage.  I appreciate the help and if anyone plans on makin a trip to fish any of the streams in NY or nearby Ontario I would be more than happy to help share conditions and weather updates.  Thanks again guys I'm looking foward to my frst trip to Elk.

I think the streams should be okay by Friday.  Elk was high and blown out today when I passed over it but if we don't get much more rain, they should be good.  There's been a good amount of fish just about anywhere so you can spread out from the crowds and still find good numbers.

Good luck on your first trip up.

By the way - how familiar are you with 18 mile or the Oak?  Planning to make a trip up for browns next year.

looking at the weather I would say it should be phenominial. If the projected snow and rain showers are far and few in between then all the creeks should be perfect and the forecast for friday dosnt look to bad. Id say go for it.

I'm very familiar with 18 mile and the oak.  Awsome run of browns and kings.  Thats about my backyard and I'll keep you in mind and let you know how the spring is turning out.

Thanks - I'm looking to get into some big browns up there.  I've caught plenty of kings out on the lake and in the river of the Oak down by Narby's but wasn't with a fly rod.  That's what I want to do next...

Sorry, but I'm going to have to say that I think Friday might still be a little high and brown.  The rain kept falling last night and is still coming down in spots today with forecasts into this evening.

Saturday would probably be better I'm guessing.

I would definitely believe Elk will be high tomorrow.  We got over an inch of rain last night and there is a chance of more this afternoon and evening.  The temperatures are supposed to drop, so that might help to lower the creek a bit, but expect it to be high.  You can check the local weather at the following - http://yourerie.com/content/weather.  Good luck when you come up.

Elk has been as high as I've seen it in awhile the past two days.  I'm guessing maybe Friday at the earliest.  Looks like some cold temps on the way though.

see this is what a reports page should look like.  nobody spilling beans for 26 posts I think thats some kind of record.  and the fact that somebody posted a pic of the access is truly helpful as well, just a reminder so we can keep good things like this going, is just to report from publicly "known" access areas.  Good job all.

I fished yesterday(thursday) on upper elk, it was high and dark, but dropping very quickly and I caught more fish than I expected too.  Today and Saturday should be incredible.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.
