I have a 7' 3wt. It is a very sweet rod for what its intended for. It loads with very little line out and will turn over very long light leaders with no problem. It also will protect light tippet well. I fish it often.

Btw, it is well made and nicely finished also......

thedrake, i realy wanted a 4wt. but they don't come in a multi-pc rod under 8'. i don't have any 3wt. rods which means i don't have any 3wt. line. so i'll need to buy both rod and line if i get the 7' 3wt. 3pc. question, have you ever used a 4wt. dt. line on your 3wt. diamondglass rod? if i have to get a new 3wt. line, i'll most likely get the sylk line. have you ever used the cortland 444 classic sylk line on it? do you use wf. or dt. line?~thanx

I havent tried the sylk on it, but I have cast it on other rods in DT. It is a great line, and i'm sure it would work fine. It seems to load softer rods nicely. I know that because i've cast the sylk on a few different bamboo rods. I plan on buying the 444 sylk in 3wt for the diamondglass and in 5wt for my WT this year.

I use wulff triangle taper on my diamondglass. It works very well. I have also cast an ultra 4 dt on it and liked it. I havent tried a 4wt, but feel it would overload the rod.

Some more info on the rod....
The rod is a dream to cast, but will emphasise any mistake in your stroke (softer rods have a tendancy to do that). I now look for small streams i've never fished just to have a good reason to fish it. It handles short and medium distance casts with ease, which is fine since we rarely have to cast over 50ft to catch trout in PA. If you fish midges and tricos, the rod fishes 6x and 7x with not problem, so you dont have to worry about breaking light tippet with the hookset.

The only problem i have with the rod is that I, from time to time, tend to overpower my forward stroke, and the rod lets me know everytime I do.

thedrake, greatly appreciate the comeback. that's the kind of info i was needing. i have an old fiberglass wonderrod and love the action and response from it but want a modern fiberglass for small streams. i have enough graphites for now from 4wt to 8wt. but the fiberglass is something different from the casting to playing fish.  thanx ~dt

    DT,

Everything Drake has said about the DiamondGlass is right on.

I would highly recommend purchasing one. They are the best Glass rod out there for the money, and they are made in the USA. If you are interested in a 4wt, I'm sure FishUSA could special order the 2pc 8' 4Wt or the 2pc 7' 4wt.

You won't have to worry about breaking these rods either. You can take the tip of them and touch the middle of the blank!

The Sylk or 444 Clear Creek lines would both work great on these rods. Their tapers are perfect for soft actions and delicate presentations.

fb86, i ride a cycle so the shorter the rod and tube the easier to pack, that's why i would want a 3pc or 4pc rod than a 2pc. ~dt.

I have a 7'6" 3wt...and it's real nice.  I fish it with a wf line, but I imagine that it would do nicely with a dt.  It is much slower than my other rods, but it's not sloppy at all.  It's a real nice looking rod too:  from the wraps, to finish, hardware...

The only problem I have seen with the diamondglass rods are they tend to throw the backcast into a shoreline tree -- at least when I try one.

I can vouch for duncsdad's statement. I witnessed this problem first hand.
