Seem to recall the mid 80s-it was a real big deal back then with the lake several feet low.

Tonight we boated  well over 100 crappie with 48 keepers. Ran out of bait. Had them hitting top water raplas .  Wish I brought my fly rod

Fish fry city!  Enjoy, Clint.  They are fun on the fly. I bagged silly season early and spent 4 days of great to crazy good striper fishing. Tomorrow  after some float tube brookies in the High Peaks.  See how steel develops. No more crowds for me.

Well I am back  from my black lake trip and it was wonderful. Boated at least 100 gills and crappie every day and brought home plenty of slabs. All the fish had migrated up a smallish creek so it was a bit crowded over the weekend , but the last two days were peaceful. On Saturday there was a boat every fifty feet I thought it was the town pool (see I got the SR reference in). I got to go with my sick friend and a guy that I consider a father and friend and it was nice. These guys are in their 70's so every trip is special. WAY more fun than dealing with the shat show. I will make a trip up this week though, probably Thursday. My buddy has someone with his wife (who needs constant supervision ) so all will drop at a hat if he calls and wants to go Waldo hunting.  My little boat is running well after a carb and fuel pump rebuild along with adjusting the timing. A few more trips and the up for the winter it goes and out comes the ice gear.

That's a great report Clint and glad you got that time with friends to share . I'm sure those crappie were icing on the cake . I never heard of "that" lake but seems it's pretty darn good if you had company a few days by other fishers .
My soft water gear is for the most part packed away until spring . If you start really zeroing in on some chrome , well , I might have to dig some out :)
Have a good fall and I will take ice all day over snow = yuck to me , lol
Gonna be outta the loop for awhile as I fly to France sat morning for 7 days .

Honestly , I have no idea what they have there and would probably have more fun at deer camp . Just one of those things I guess. Most likely be wondering if there is ice yet in NY while I'm there , lol

The ADK's are 150% on fire this week.  The wind riffles blowing white across the boatless Lake Placid  looked like ice on Monday.  Especially as it was just at freezing and the trees on Whiteface were coated in rime.  I don't think you'll be waiting long for ice far up, HT.  Have a good trip, though I know most of it is translating greed and criminal negligence from the french.  I'm waiting for Clint to put up a good pure steel report. Then I'll get excited.

DSR reports that the Steel are starting to show down there, however with this low water the snaggers will thin them out when they try to move up river.Meanwhile out west the main problem is NO water, don't know wgen that'll change as there are no big rain events in sight.

Very nice Charlie . Esther or Whiteface ? Spectacular indeed !!!
Funny thing is I'm watching French travel guides on YouTube , ADK's seem like more fun .
Hope to read of great adventures when I miss out .

Whiteface.  Took a tube ride around Chapel in the morning, but couldn't find anyone home. I thought about Europe so many times, but always ended up in the mountains or waters in North America. You'll have some memories, I'm sure.
  Thanks for the update, Clint.

I'm thinking about Alaska next July for Kings,Chum, sockeye,Rainbows,Dolly Varden, and Grayling. We found what looks to be a great lodge only one mile from the salt and it is all inclusive including the tackle. They take you out in jet boats and then you have option of wading or fishing from boat or shore, wading looks easy unlike the slimy rocky SR.

Well today 10/14 we decided to skip the shat how again, man it's getting to be a regular occupancy. We went to Oneida lake and floated around. Got into one nice patch of perchies and managed 10 over 10inches.  nothing special. But a nice 4 hours with the sunshine

Today I fished mostly the LFZ but did hit a few other spots quick.   As Charlie stated the fishing was slow for this time of year.   I almost did something I have  always wanted to do. Get a Ho, steel and king on the same day. I hooked one of each , but alas,  lost the ho at the net, the steel at a jump and the king was landed. Saw two other steel on, one brown foul hooked and one other king landed. That's it, slow as everything. A few coming in and out had the same reports slow going and no steel. The three I saw were still silver bullets though.
L 13 did you leave a jar of sauce on the rock for me. I found one there.............

Thanks, Clint-mine was Sat. spent on the river. I almost gave you a call, but the fishing wasn't good enough , though it'd be good to see you. At least you had a steel on!  Happy b-day to you, too.  Cool you hooked that triple crown.

I must have not recognized you up there under the Hemlocks.  I left it for one of the flyflingers downstream from you, but upstream from the wall,  a guy named Sal from Conneticut who gave us a bunch of his spey flies to try (if there are ever any fish!) when we met him last week.  If he was still there when you went out, that was crossed wires, but if I'd seen you I'd have had sauce for you , too, so we'll keep an eye out for Sal on the flip flop.  If he went out first he is forgetful.

You may have had the best fishing on the river from what I saw the last three days, and with it over 900 this AM we just headed back and looked at the little ditches.  But there is a serious dearth of steelhead, and a lot of the brown spots down the lake have no fish yet either.  If something doesn't break loose in reaction to the rains today and the augmented flow from the Res, it is last year all over again or worse.

L I was fishing on the rootball for a while and then on the point..
I met Sal I think and they left before me .
when I left there was no one around so I took the jar , as I do some canning and did not want it laying around getting broken.
Guess I get the sauce.

Fished from a little after sun up until quitting time. Covered LFZ, Prineville and Long bridge area and then back to the LFZ.  I hooked up early for a decent tussle and lost a nice Brown at the net late. Saw no fish between.  Saw 1 fish landed all day other than 2 12 inch browns. There were probably a dozen hook ups seen at the LFZ so yes the fishing really stunk for this time of year. I worked very hard for those 2 hook ups and was in what I consider a very good spot.

2B and I had the same kind of luck Tues-Thurs, he got a male Randolph in the LFZ and I had one pull and run near Pineville that broke me at the leader line connection (Ouch!). 4 3 days!  SUX this year!

I got a migraine last night and had to take a pill. When I do that I never sleep well, so at 0345 I was up. Decided I wound not sleep again so I got ready and left. Was up  there at 0415 and of course I was the SECOND  one there and we all know where the first guy was standing. Ended up going across the river and setting up in a good spot that usually produces.  Come to find out I was about 50 feet off. Fishing was average today with most guys hooking at least one if they worked. The guy that beat me there hooked  many times  as  the guy down from me 50 feet did.  The general consensus was the fishing stunk, but I think everyone has good memories of a few years ago. Overall it was the best day out I have seen this year, but not for me. I managed on quick hook up and a head shake so all was not lost. I left at noon.

Well today got up  with a can do attitude and not much else mattered. Needed swivels and can you guess not one shop in Altmar open. Should of stopped to Jailwater, but forgot. Went to Pulaski picked up what I needed. Decided as long as I a here hit some low water. Had the Clown  pool to myself for an hour and fished in Dawns hole. I felt dirty when I left. Fished tall bridge for an hour with again nothing. Hit the LFZ and found a spot to get in. Fished three different spots an hour each. With one quick pull and another head shake and that was it. (first one may have been fouled, but don't know).  Saw one  other fish on and landed the whole time.  When I was walking out a fish was landed on the rocks at the bridge.  Slow day to say the least, but a day out none the lest.
Public service announcement: Guys leave your dogs home please. I know its during the week and not too crowded, but  a fly zone is no place for a dog, bad enough watching out for the guy an arms length next to you let alone mans best friend back behind you.
Thank you
That is all.......
