Any Ideas

I need help, I want to buy a new motor for my 20' fishing pontoon.  I was really thinking about a Evinrude E Tec 40 or 50.  I have a  evinrude 10 on it now, it starts right up and runs good, just to slow for storms and going from one spot to another.  I do 90% fishing on my pontoon so I want one that can troll without loading up.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this.  I really don't want to put two motors on.  I keep it at Shenago and fish there.

Doski, I have a 75hp four stroke on my 17 1/2 ft boat. I use it to troll all the time, the only thing that I have to do to get it down to 1.5 or lower mph is to put out a drift sock. I know you are talking 2 stroke, I just thought I could give you some info on the fours.

Thanks, I don't want to use a sock at Shenago some shallow spots and always turning around.  I would of never thought to worry about this except I talked to a gentleman last summer who bought a merc and he is pi$$ed off because after asking the dealer if could troll his bigger motor it loads up all the time the dealer won't help him now.  The E tec is two cycle but you never mix oil and gas together  www.evinrude.com.   I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything  or anyone who owns one.

I used to run twin 115 hp etec saltwater engines.  never had a problem with them just make sure your oil reservoir never gets too low.

doski, had a similar problem, although not on a pontoon boat.ended up with an electric trolling motor after trying a  small gas motor on my boat.we have two deep cycle batteries with an isolation switch between them so we can use one for the trolling motor and one for everything else, but can recharge the trolling motor  anytime or switch back and forth.have only had this setup for 1 year ,but so far it's working great, have fished  lake erie all day with no trouble.the iso switch eliminates the need for multiple batteries saving a lot of space and the gas motor keeps the troller charged up.hope that helps you out.

Wow thanks for the information, Chancy I belong to the KCA and talked to you before about this.  You gave me good information and the dealer in Ohio for Honda.  Let me ask this, how many times have you taken your motor in for service?  How long have you owned it?

Otwobriefly  Are talking about electric motor like Min Kota ?
I live in the Pulaski/New Bedford Pa area and there is boat dealer 6 miles away in Coitsville Ohio that is a gold star or something dealer for Evinrude.

Had the motor for 3 1/2 years now. Changed the oil every spring and only changed plugs last year. Talked to the dealer in Conneaut and he said thats all i need to do. Said they are great motors and dont need very much servicing. Thats my kind of motor. I ran the same plugs for 3 seasons and it still would troll at 1.5. And i know you're a member of KCA. I'm still waiting on that jerky.

Ya Doski, we have a MinnKota,BUT,we had a new 25HP 2 stroke . To do it again, I think I would go 4 stroke, more expensive and heavier than a 2, but definatly good runners and real quiet.

I've used my Honda for 3 seasons.  Change the gear lube in the fall, the oil in the spring......and add gas as needed all year!  Have a new set of plugs, but haven't felt the need to change them yet.
