Thanks BH. I was thinking the same thing after checking out pictures on the net, but wasn't sure if they were around Crawford county.

Keep the pics and stories of the hunts coming in. Hey how about some pics of the little dog? I'm pretty sure I have to agree fisher tracks from the pics I researched. Found some nice pups there from Kentucky to South Carolina and no breeder ship pups,so waiting to hear from the Ohio breeder. How close does that dog hunt, does she check in when not treed?

Big tuna, she tends to stay pretty close if I'm not moving through the woods, but has started to range out quite a bit while I'm walking (75 yds or so). Always checks back in after a few minutes. Even when she's spotted deer she might chase them a little ways, but has no real interest in them and comes back looking to see where I'm at. That's EXTREMELY nice compared to when I would coonhunt with my dad and one of them would catch a deer track.

Thanks for the confirmation on the track as well BT. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and actually get a glimpse of the fisher that left them.

Good luck with the bunnies tuna. Off work today, so I think I'm gonna take a road trip and see if I can't boot a grouse or 2. Snows a little deep around here, so the dog is gonna get a break today.

Bunny hunting was poor,two chases,one holed,one died.

Sorry to hear it was slow BT, but at least you didnt get skunked.

Ended up making my yearly trip to the mountains in search of the always hard to hit grouse. After pulling the truck to the side of the road and thanking God I didn't pull over 4 " further into the 2 1/2 foot deep snow filled ditch, I began the trek up the mountainside. After about 45 min of the familiar walk-stop cadence zig zagging up and down the thick mountainside, I finally flushed the first bird (heard but never seen). The blood was pumping after that, and after slogging around in the snow for another hour a second bird flushed and headed to my right side, scaring the crap out of me. I swung the shotgun and let the bb's fly connecting with.....nothing but trees and air. As said before, those little sob's are hard to hit. Gave it another hour with no results. No pictures of said grouse, but it was a beautiful winter day to be out.

Rode around the in the truck for a few letting my legs get a break, then headed for a new to me patch of woods. Although it had some areas that looked like they would be holding birds, there were no flushes. Saw a few treerats, but they got the pass today since I was carrying the shotgun. I did come across something I've never seen in the woods before, a small area that had 5 beech saplings that had the bark chewed off from the bottom to the tippy top, about 12' up. Not sure what did it, but my best guess is squirrels. Must be pretty hungry up in the mountains.

All in all, another great day enjoying the PA wilds.

Great story Crappie_Slayer, brought back memories of hunting Lower Two Mile Run in my old.... old stomping grounds.  Absolutely nothing in the world like the thrill of an unexpected Grouse flush.

Great pictures and as for the tree, hope that ain't from a 12' 'treerat' that might be seeking revenge.

Yesterday took my beagle on a non hunt (no gun) city limits. Had and outstanding 4 hours, she ran 7,she almost caught 2 on the jump, circled 6 to me,put one under a pallet that I had in had in my hand for a second, ran one over a double set of railroad tracks and into someone back yard and back, across a road and railroad tracks to me. She was all world yesterday. She just turned 3 and may be the best solo track dog I've ever had out of 20 some dogs I've owned.I only wish.I had the rabbit spots I had years ago, good spots are far and few between.

Sounds like a fun day Tuna. With the recent warmup putting a hurt on the ice, think my dad and I are gonna take the dog for a run tomorrow.
