I just read an article in the February 2008 "Field and Stream" titled "Fishing With Dad". If this one doesn't bring a tear to your eyes, you haven't experienced the true sport of fishing. Fishmonger

Used to love PA Game News, until they started filling all the stories with thier propaganda.  Did you ever notice that every time there is a regulation change the story goes to great lengths to say how the hunter abided by the regulation......I first started to notice it a few years back and it went something like this.
"As the turkey came in, I glanced up to be sure my posted blaze orange band was visible 360 degrees..................

Yeah. Re-inforcing the rules, safety, and ethics IS a bad thing.

Fly Fishing and Tying Journal

PA Game and Fish is terrible.  All it is is a listing of "Top 10 SW PA late season deer hunts"  "Top 10 July bass hotspots" "Top 10 SE PA preseason trout waters" etc.  Then goes on to list 10 locations, directions to get there, and that's it.  That's the whole magazine, every issue, every article.

I'm with Elephanthead.  Usually read each GLA issue 4 or 5 times, always miss some juicy tidbit.

No I didn't mean it that way spoon, its just that it used to be just stories from normal people.  When I tell a story to my friends I don't tell it that way and now they are obviously editing or selecting them for it.  Not against saftey, just liked the writing the way it used to be.

Not to mention that rules and ethics aren't always intertwined.  Many rules seem created simply to control habits, harvests, and even to generate revenue through fines, while most rules are based on strict ethical practices.  When the emphasis of an article is placed on stating the rules and regulations followed or not followed during a story's events, it reeks of inept writers forced to rely on Agency publications for getting themselves published.  I've noticed it in the past myself.  Always thought it odd.  Then again, it could be written by field officers themselves, who hopefully live their life by those rules and codes of conduct to the point where they can't control when they come out.  It's definitely one of the things that keeps me from reading that rag.  It's just not good writing.

Yea TT I don't have a problem for passing along rules especially if there are younger readers, but when I used to read that mag, I could almost imagine myself being there, not at all the case anymore....

Field and Stream was a great magazine till they smeared it with adds. My eyes aren,t the best to begin with, now I have to find page 94 to finish the article that I was reading. Could save some trees too if they wouldn,t put 8 post cards in one issue.

1. PA Outdoor News
2. Field&Stream
3. Peterson's Bowhunting
4. Outdoor Life
5. Game News
I'd like to add one more, perhaps an all flyfishing mag.  Which do you folks suggest?
