this was a 30 inch female caught photographed and released elk creek!  we fished all week end in new york with minimal success only landing 3 steelhead and one king.  so on our way home we stopped at elk and ended up hooking into a few fish and this steelhead made the whole trip worth it!

You've got yourself a Quillback (Carpiodes cyprinus) there in your right hand, a nice one too! Rare catch since they have very obscure feeding habits.

My biggest cat measued 35" and was caught on Erie while trolling for steelies. Caught on a Bay rat short shallow rambler bought from your store, suggested by Matt.

Both my sons reeled in this fresh Steelhead this fall at only 3 years of age. Took them a while and got some help from Dad but they cranked for a few minutes on this big guy!

Divemaster,
Longnose are prevalent in Presque Isle Bay from spring to midsummer, often quite shallow.  They're easy to find because they surface for air.

We have Spotted Gar as well, which are endangered in PA and illegal to target.  Catch a few every year while Longnose fishing.  Pugnacious little buggers!

The Mon and Allegheny around Pittsburgh have very healthy populations of longnose gar. I don't fish the Ohio so I wouldn't know about that side of the city. The longnose down here have only a few spots near their tail,, http://fishandboat.com/pa...htms/chap7.htm#longgar
I haven't caught an Erie gar in over 30 years, but back then the marinas seemed to be polluted with them.

I was told that the pfbc stocked them relatively recently (within the last ten years) in the Ohio basin. I wrote the pfbc about a month ago, but have yet to get a reply.

Awesome! I'll have to tie up some rope lures for next year in case it's too rough for the main lake, graveyard pond never disappoints!

Yep, rope lures are the way to go.

You'll have some fun if you get into them next year.  Revved up gar like to go aerial.  You can get numerous full somersault jumps out of them.  They do the tailwalk, too.
