handline fishing for eyes

I just watched a walleye tournament & 1 of the guys was using a handline,do any of you use that method,if so what is the advantage or conditions for doing so? Is the line attached to a rod. Any info would be appreciated. Seems to me that it would be harder to control a hooked fish to keep it away from the motor etc. without a rod.  thanks  sam

A few years back, I remember reading about hand lining while looking for walleye tournament information. The article I read talked about Keith Eshenbaugh (I think that's how you spell his last name) and his partner using the technique. I think it said that he is from Washington, PA and operates a fishing lure business.  If you're close to Washington, you may want to speak with him. Hope this helps.

I fish with Keith's Dad sometimes,I will ask him,but he usually doesn't fish for eyes unless he is with his son. sam

I think you are referring to Keith Eshbaugh from Dutch Fork Custom Lures.... he has a web site for the business and I believe you can contact him through the site.  He makes some great blades and custom paint jobs on lures.
