braided line

I have very little experience with braided line,so I am asking since it is supposed to be abrasive resistant, could I do away with wire leaders for toothy critters or is that asking too much of it. I normally make a short leader out of 20# line & don't have too many biteoffs.I normally cast plugs from shore & the wire leaders cause too many prob. for me. I am asking for someone who has actual experience doing this.  thanks  sam

Its not very abrasion resistant at all when it comes to rocks and debris. Minor fraying of the first few feet of line is normal. Just cut off that section next time you retye. I'm not sure how it holds up to teeth as I almost always use a flouro or mono leader.

I have tons of experience with braid and big pike.  They will bite through it like nothing; there have been times I have actually seen them hit a spinnerbait and take it without feeling it at all.  In my experience, braid is easier for a toothy fish to bite off than mono.  If your track record using 20lb mono leaders is good, I would stay with it when using the braid.

I've never caught a pike. Last musky I landed was an incidental catch fishing for river walleye. I had an 8lb flouro leader. Hook was right in the corner of the mouth though.
