Boat Motor Prices??

Does anyone have a good boat motor pricing guide?  I've been using the NADA.

For the past year, I have checked the price of about 200 motors/boats, and a total of about 5 where under the NADA price.  I see some people say that they are selling for "well under book value", then check and see it is about twice the NADA value.  Is this site completely out of whack?  If so, is there another source that seems to be a little more accurate?  I've noticed that the lower hp motors on this reference are priced at about 1/10th of what some people are trying to get for their motors.

Bought a brand new Tohatsu 18 horse for my fishing boat in august.  I got 2 totally different prices from 2 dealers.  One was about 2 times the price of the one dealer. I'll tell you for a honda yamaha 4 stroke, which most of the motors sold now are 4 stroke is, in a 20 horse model its gonna be around 4,000.  Not sure what size your looking for but maybe this will help you judge a little better.  Boat motors are by no means getting any cheaper...  Good Luck

    $4000 for a new 20 hp 4 stroke???!!!!!! way too much $$$.

Porktown, you gotta shop around. i paid around $7000 for a brand new merc 115 fuel injected 4-stroke a few years ago. i bought in ohio. i shopped around in PA and could not believe the prices dealers ask/get for new boats and motors. it also depends on what you want. if you want new and you call around you should still be able to find some '07 leftovers. sometimes new motors are not much more than what people are crazy enough to pay for used. imo people pay crazy $$$ for used 9.9, 15, 18 hp motors.

buying out of a book is nearly impossible. the book prices are averaged off of new and deductions are made each year. more for insurance purposes. its not like NADA, KBB, Black Book, etc... for automobiles where auctions set the prices each week for used automobiles.

also, there are alot more options of motors to buy now, especially for guys wanting to run illegally(18, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 hp motors with different covers and stickers). used to be a 25-40 hp motor was worth very little. heres a a couple of sites that will give you an idea of new motor prices. these sites are in line of what new motors should cost. if youre buying used you can adjust accordingly off of the new $$$. http://www.marine-outboards.com/ or http://www.jacosmarine.com/

Yeah 4000 was too much in my mind also.  Got a brand new tohatsu 4 stroke with 3 year warranty out the door for a little over 2 grand.  The guys at both shops told me tohatsu builds the power heads for all outboards under 30 horsepower anyhow.
