Just bought two new Sage rods last year. The Sage TCR and Z-Axis. The Z-Axis replaced the XP. However its lighter and faster then the XP but if you want a rod that is ultra fast then you want to get the TCR. I got both of mine in 9' 5 wieght.

    1roadking,
I used to have an expensive rod and it broke so I went with my backup > a Shakespeare Graphite ugly stick.  9' 6-7 wt.  It is still my preferred rod.  I also like a St. Croix and a Browning.  I believe in going as inexpensive as possible for steel because you aren't trying to finesse a 5 pound trout.  You need sturdy and utilitarian.  Heck one of the best rods in my rack is a 25.99 Shakespeare set up from Wal-mart.  It ain't pretty and it's a bit clumsy but it has never broken and it's the rod I give to all my friends who want to try fly fishing.  BTW Isn't your rod supposed to be guaranteed for life?

Bummer about your XP.  I fish a 10' 6 weight.  I still believe it's the best all around fly rod that I've tried.  I've casted the Z-Axis, and the XP is faster.

St. croix rods r hard to beat especially fly rods.  Lifetime warranty on most and American made means alot.

I have a avid series 10' 7 weight 4 piece that is my steelhead gear.  Its not a fast action action rod.  Its moderate action.  I like a slower rod for steelhead for chuck and duck style of fishing.  You would probably have to step up to a legend ultra series to get into the fast action rods.  I probably have around a dozen st. croixs and won't **** about a one of them.  Most are bass and walleye gear rods but love em all.. Heres a link to st. croix rods check em out..

I was going to buy one of those Shakespeare fly rods just to have.  I have had quite a few Shakespeare spinning rods over my lifetime and have always likes them.  My fly fishin addiction is getting to be a little much for my wife who has to keep reminding me that I still have a mortgage that needs tended to.  I want to get a Dennison Fly Spin reel and I thing the Shakespeare rod would be perfect for it.
