Thinking the same thing myself.  There is no other fly-fishing catalog I have ever seen that has that great a selection of quality items, at good prices to boot.

Go ahead Greg, bust my chops, it's OK to disagree. To answer why, when you have it all, you have it all. At least that's what my wife says. Actually, it's the same almost year after year. Can never find anything I need. Would much rather store shop. For the beginner tho I guess it's a good place to start a wish list. Sooooooo tired of buying fishing equip that I don't need.   Dave

ya, just got the fly shop catalog. that new scott a2 rod or winston vapor's look'n sweeter. where's my rebate check?? i wonder if i can convince them of free shipping? if not there's others. i hate to buy things out of state but it sure beats not paying shipping and sales tax.

    DT:
Those advantages are gone.  Just ordered a fly reel - $140.  Shipping is $12.95.  Tax is $9.48, which is 6% of the sale price plus the shipping cost.  This is the first time I can recall the PA sales tax being applied to catalog orders.  I have been a reasonably satisfied customer of Cabela's for a long time, but will rely more on the local fly shops in the future.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but any store that has a retail outlet located
in PA is required to collect sales tax on catalog orders.

beerman, i believe your right. where i live in clarion there are no quality shops selling the merch. i seek. for a $300.00 rod, that's $18.00 in tax. i can drive my 14mpg vehicle to volant, tionesta if i want an orvis or winston rod, or erie if i want a scott rod, which at $3.00+ a gallon for gas might not be worth it. it's just strange i can order a rod from califoria or colorado, not pay tax, no shipping at some shops, and no gas money. now if i can get a deal on a diamondglass rod, my 3rd choice rod, from fisherie i would go with them.. what's a guy to do? ~dt

I've casted both the scott a2 and winston vapor in a 10' 7 wt.  Vapor is a tad faster but feels a bit "clubby." -- although a lot of 10 foot rods can feel clubby though. Neither are particularly fast by any means.  I liked the a2.  I'd like to throw one in a 8'6" 5 wt.   Probably end up buying it, so I'll stay away.

silverkype, thanks for the comparison. i've casted a vapor 9'5wt, it's faster than my other rods. i'm interested in a 9'5wt scott also because the 8'5" i got is so perfect to my casting ability, just WANT a 4 pc. you know how that need and want goes  i have an old fiberglass wonder rod for small streams that i love the feel of. so i'm undecided on what i need/want
