China vs. American Made Rods?

Any anglers notice a difference between American or China made rods? I just got a Quantum Affinity 9' noodle rod off eBay and did not know it was made in China. Will this affect my chances of catching my 1st Steelie? Any comments and replies are appreciated in advance.

That's just too funny sorry! It  has nothing to do with your rod, it's the knowledge a person has that's using the rod. Just like guns i love how people say that guns kill. Guns don't kill it's the person behind the gun that kills. I have seen some crazy rigs up in Erie, and you gotta love the guy's the fish there spinning reels upside down that's a hoot!

Oooooohhh, you're suppose to have the reel upside down??
Man does that answer a bunch of questions!

I thought all the snaggers held their reel upside down?  lol

    Topic at hand...
When you can, buy American. But I don't think that rod will have any bad mojo!

I talked to a guy one day that was fishing his reel upside down. And i showed him the correct way of fishing it, He fought and argued with me ,that me and others that use the spinning reel the correct way was doing it wrong and they where doing it right. So i busted out laughing in this poor man's face ( sorry i just couldn't keep it in any longer )that was already red from me trying to show him the right way, then he told me to go blank myself,,,,i have never laughed so hard than that day. Every time i see that i just want to scream...

in all seriousness, we need to support our fellow Americans , buy buying American made products as often as possible from American companies, I'm so tired of seeing made in china, ive lost 2 jobs in the last 10 years due to jobs moving out of the USA

Just because you bought a product that was not made in the states you can sill catch fish, or at least try. But what you may also of done is got some father of 3 with a wife slopping tables laid off. Made the forman of a sweat shop push alittle harder. Maybe even funded the towel heads. You cant beat oversees prices but when you look at the big picture you are hurting the future of America. Thanks lets try and work at that.

youghman, my orvis clearwater reel was made in the uk. my clearwater rod i believe was made overseas. a lot of blanks come from overseas. if i can't find a rod or reel made in the U.S. for the price range i am looking for with quality i at least buy it from an american company. sometimes you can't always get what you want but buy what you need, buy american, one way or another..

You'll still be able to catch fish, but you need a flashy presentation so that the Chinese fish can see it through their little slits they have for eyes.( I'm not a racist, just a joker.) Also, try a little soy sauce on the bait for scent.

I dunno. I would rather buy from a foreign company that is expanding it's market, than an American company that wants American customers, but not American employees.

Even if it says made in America, I'll bet my socks that something in it was made over seas.

Just about the only part of an American made rod that is actually made here is the blank.  Custom rods included.  You're just supporting the local economy by going that route.

I attempt to buy american, however I don't always have time to do the research to find out what or where ....I have 4 kids a job and a continuing education to finish.....Danner boots are an excellent example of why to buy american, the ones still made here don't leak.  I have had them for 3 years, I have been through 3 pairs of them made in china in the same time period.......I have learned (the hard way) that the extra money for quality is worth it on most items,

But I don't begrudge the guy who saved 50$ on a rod, 40$ on boots, $30 on a reel etc.....Right there is enough gas money to get me and my boat out for a few more trips per year.....Life is a circus, and we are all just trying to juggle......

just got my l.l.bean catalogue, the the double LL rods are now imported. not to get this off topic but i just came back from a kohler update engine class. kohler bought a factory in china to make a line of small engines for lawn mowers. the parts and assembly is done in their chinese factory. the parts won't say made in china but stamped kohler. it just goes to show some companies that go overseas must be ashamed of what their doing and try to hide the fact their merchindise is made abroad!!

Can anyone name me a reasonably priced American made rod or reel?  By reasonably priced, I mean a rod affordable for the middle class man with 3 children and a wife to feed.  I would certainly buy American made tackle, but when you buy so much for so many different species, you cannot help but try to save some money and cut corners here and there.  Don't get me wrong, some of the gear I own is US made, however, a lot is also made in China or somewhere else over seas.  Its not like it used to be either, their products are getting better...some even being better than USA made.  I love the thought of supporting our own, but thats a dying attitude in this day and age...with foreign trade, cheap overseas labor and all these corporations looking to make more and more money.  The market is not competetive enough for most US made products to be priced for the average Joe with an average income.  So to answer you question, your Quantum Affinity should be just fine and as another member stated..."Its not the arrow, it is the indian!"  Good Luck!
