My favorite native trout stream

Got out the other week when we had all that warm weather. Nothing beats fishing little mountain streams. Beautiful scenery and the air just seems fresher out there.

The last one I assume is a holdover from last years stockings. No way is it a native.

    Moose Huh?

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

up this way it's black bear or benner run. both good for natives, size and numbers.

the early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

That looks like a spawned out female to me.  Most likely native.  They usually look that way for a while until they eat enough to regain their coloring.  The kerotine (sp) in their bodies is what gives them the bright colors, but it is also necessary for egg production.  Same fish will be just as bright in a month or two, depending on the food chain.  A holdover brookie would have the same coloring as a native by this time of the year.  It's all about what they eat.  That is why the rainbows the state stocks from N. Caroline are so brightly colored from the trucks compared to the grey slabs that are raised in PA.  I'm told in NC that they feed the fish byproducts from the ocean fishing industry, which contains many more minerals than does the pellets used in PA.

Fishing with bait is like swearing in church.

got to agree with slate_drake on the spawned out female. the 19" brookie i caught a few years back was simular in color only more of a bluish cast.

Man I envy you guys that live or have a camp close enough to go to these streams. Amazing pics pxatim, what weight rod do you fish with, that is if your fly fishing.

It's a hand built rod my dad built back when he was in college. I believe it's a 3wt fenwick blank he used.
