Rut starting?

My wife saw a big buck(her words) chasing a 3 legged doe yesterday about 2 in the afternoon.  The 3 legger has been around for several years.  Of course this was on hundreds of acres of private land where hunting was never permitted.
No sign of a rut where I am hunting though.

A little 6 point was harassing some does by me this AM but that is all I have seen down in this area.  1.5 yr olds are cruising and getting anxious.  Still have not seen a legal buck, much less a shooter, all season.
Also had a spike bed down 15 yds from me.  Was so thick, we couldn't see each other and he just walked off slowly after I made noise prepping to get down from the stand and into work.

Up north, my contacts tell me the bigger guys are starting to cruise and scrape more.  They may b be a week ahead of us north of I-80 as far as the "rutty" behavior goes.

Scrapes are starting to show up, but I'm not really seeing any rut activity yet.

Same here. Lots of scraping right now. Little bucks are moving. Stray doe in estrous to cause some excitement but nothing crazy yet where I am hunting. I hope that changes next week as I am off!

Little bucks on  the move.... Route 51 has 4 down.. One Round Hill extension, 1 Day Collision, One top of Large hill, One in Rite Aid Pleasant Hills. Also 1/2 dozen doe mixed in. Four point stepped out in front of me going to work Sunday 5am. MVA last night 12:00 lady swerved to miss one, rolled her truck over the guide rail and over the hill. She landed on her roof, trapped BUT unhurt. While responding to the crash 3 stepped out and coming home 4 stepped out.............Be careful out there........

Took a mature doe Wednesday. She came out of one side of the corn field while two legal bucks went out the other side of a narrow field. The farmer was picking soybeans and saw them go out. This evening while coming home from hunting saw an injured deer(broken back-hit by car-eleven point) along the road. It was struggling so I stopped and dispatched it with my personal firearm. The guy that stopped along side me took it.

Here are my observations hunting in 1B and 3A the past week for whatever it's worth.

10/30 - Yearling bucks wandering. Big buck checks a doe and leaves her.  Not ready yet and not interested in harassing her.  I couldn't get a shot.
11/1 - Does still with fawns.  Tells me not getting chased hard yet.
11/2 - Cousin is retarded.  Ruins the morning.  Don't go out in evening.
11/4 - Does with fawns again.  Yearling bucks still stupid and wandering.
11/5 - Yearling bucks start harassing does enough to separate from fawns.  Getting close.  Spikes are everywhere.
11/6 - 2.5 yr old wandering.  Nose not to the ground.  Not interested in grunts.  No does seen.
11/7 - Yearlings as usual.  Just doing the same old same old.  Right before dark all heck breaks loose.  First hot doe of year runs past my stand with a nice buck right on her tail.  Too slow with the draw and they are gone.  Bummed.  5 minutes later next buck shows up trailing them.  Not shooter, borderline even legal.  Runs between my ladder and tree.  5 minutes later, absolute brute comes trailing them all.  Checks up in clearing to locate the scent = you're mine.

I honestly think the first hot doe was a couple days later this year than in the past where I hunt.  Still, it occurred in the single digit November days and that's when I take my vacation every year.  Obviously I have no way of knowing it was the first hot doe of the area, but I'm thinking it had to have been one of the first.  I was on stand 90% of the daylight Mon - Thurs and it was the first real craziness observed.  The buck I shot was way bigger than anything we had on camera all year.  That indicated to me that he might have come from a distance looking for a screw.

Now I gotta go get dressed for a wedding.  Who gets married in the rut anyway?

It's still only pre-rut at best. I've had similar encounters as claypool. 8 doe cam thru on my buddy yesterday morning, wheres the buck? He hunts one side of the thicket, I hunt the other. When I got into my stand I could smell strong oder of dominant buck coming from the thicket. All the does my buddy seen went into the thicket. I texted my bud and asked him if the buck has his doe trained. He than sees a spike who did a lil sniffin around but eventually went the opposite way of the doe. Makes me think even more that brutus was in the thickets and was not coming out to fight. Like I do every year, I'll suck him out of the thickets next week.
