corps of engineer lakes

I found out the hard way to-day that the lakes are locked up due to the budget crisis,at least here in the southwest Pa. area.  sam

    Found out the same thing in the same area. 
     
    Salvaged the evening by doing a bit of waterfowl spot scouting.
     

     
    I wonder though: since they're "shut down", I'm under the impression they're not staffed...so what's stopping me (or anyone) from just pulling off onto the side of the road and walking down to the water?

    Your allowed as far as I know. Some of the ones I visit in late fall thru early spring close some roads and gates due to winter but never had a problem pulling over and walking down. Don't see why you couldn't now

    king, You may want to read the latest news release from the PGC on hunting or fishing on these places while they are closed.  sam

    Not really much definitive information.  Almost seems like the PGC is issuing a little scare to steer more hunters to the gamelands.
    It doesn't list what federal properties are or are not open.  I would assume the ones that are closed would be posted as such at the entrances but if you hunt or fish and park at a place that is not a regular entrance, how are you to know?  I doubt they are posting the entire property as closed since we all know it is temporary and if you don't have "reasonable" warning that something is posted (that is normally open to outdoor activities), even if you were "pinched," you would have a good case to have it thrown out.
     
    If the lands are closed, who will patrol them?  
     
    If it were one of my go to hunting or fishing spots, I know what I would do but...

    I will not get into the ethics of going someplace that is posted or what would happen if you would. My original intent was to warn guys that were planning on taking a boat to one of these places & making the drive for nothing as the gates were locked to the launches. I do know of guys that went to Conemaugh & were asked to leave.   sam

    Screw the government, Let the politicians pay all fines! 
     
    On another subject, With this so called shutdown, doesn't the Army Corp of Engineers rule the rivers?  And if so, does that mean that boat launches on the river are closed also?

    Timachro, I am not positive,but I think that most of the boat launches on the rivers belong to the PF&BC,thus they are open.  sam

    Upper Allegheny river launches (Buckaloons, etc.) are owned by the Feds & are closed.
