Getting ready for ice

A little early but i found a deal that was just to hard to pass up as i was gonna get one this season anyway. Got my Lowrance Elite 5 Icemachine this week. Had it backordered for 7 weeks. Saved close to $200 on it. Got it from Cabelas.

Cool. I can't wait to get a report from you. I haven't heard a whole lot about this machine. I'm wondering how it will compare to the Vex.

I tied some ice jigs last week. They look sweet. I can't wait to try them.

Looks like a sweet unit Chauncy! I'm chomping at the bit for ice season as well! I can't wait to get to use my new auger, and I am looking forward to trying out some new lakes.

I have a vex and an older model lowrance map68c which is the same as this unit with a bigger screen. I choose this unit over the vex every time i go out. Watch some of the videos on you tube and you'll see why.

Chauncy, thanks for the links. I can't watch them at work, but I'll check them out when I get home. They must be really cool if they are better than a Vex. I got my first Vex last year and it was a complete game changer for me. Since I got it, there hasn't been a single day that I've come home without fish. I like reading your posts because you seem to be into the same types/styles of fishing that I am into. We both target the same species. I hope I'm as skilled as you are by the time I'm your age, man. I learn as much as I can from as many people as I can. Thanks for all of your posts and for always being informative and reliable.

Chauncy, do you have that unit now, or is it still on backorder? Have you played with it on the open water?

Will this thing see something as small as an ice ant?

I also have just received the Elite 5 ice machine from cabelas, I fished with some fellows last year that had similar units they worked great. I have a vex fl-18 and a hummin bird ice-55 they both work great they are flashers and are old school, these new lcd's are a marked improvement and yes you can see a tiny ice ant on them every movement of your jig. If you just cant stand to not have a flasher you still can with the elite 5 spilt the screen 1 half flasher the other lcd best of both worlds.
Also any one interested in buying my Fl-18 pm me Just don't need 3 units, still works great give someone a deal!!

Yes i have it now. I've played with it but not on the water. Taking it down to Ky with me this weekend and i'll let you know how it works. I've been using an older model of this unit since last season and love it. To me, it blows my vex off the ice. Keeping my M68C and selling my one year old FL-22hd pro pack for $425. Contact me here if anyone's interested and we may be able to make a deal.
