Anytime I can. Not real picky. A lot depends on the availability of time, money and stream conditions. Besides all that - prefer late November going into December. Fish are still fairly active because the water is not yet real cold and I can usually still feel my feet at the end of the day.

I guess I am in the category of whenever I have the time to do it.  Now that I have a 2.5 hr drive to Erie, that time will be limited.  Thankfully I have no classes to teach on Fridays!

Having said that, this new location I find myself in certainly has some opportunities for me outside of slime!

Anytime i can fish,,, I actually really like it when there's snow on the ground and you can't feel your feet or fingers...now that's steelhead fishing! Or the first trip of the year you get out of the vehicle and smell the Air!!!!!!!  Erie Tribs have that smell...love it................ centerpin_drift

When it's snowing for steel but a nice spring day, a 3wt and a small trout stream are pretty hard to beat for the soul and to shake off the winter.

Early September when it's low and clear.

    Few fish

    Few fisherman

It's probably about the hardest time to catch them.
You can't just stomp around throwing eggsacks.

    Slow motion.
    Delicate casts.
    Tough presentations.
and one hell of a fight.

Definently September, with October being a close second.  Can't beat the warm weather, and hard fighting fresh crome.  Everyonce in awhile you get lucky and run into a few hundred freshies, like me a few other board members did this season.

November-early december...the fish are dumb enough that even a ham handed fisherman like me can catch fish.

I really enjoy hitting up any small creek around mid May.  The air temp really warms up, the trees begin to bloom, the air has that spring-like scent in it, the caddis hatch turns on, the fish become more active and begin to surface, and the school year comes to a close

I fish all year round....my favorite time would be the time when the fish are responding to my presentations the most.  This is the time fishing is most satisfactory to me.  Oh yeah and the time I get to do it with my kids, friends and family.  Fishing and spending time with friends and family, what could be better!

As far as what season....I prefer when its NOT cold, even though the cold has never kept me away....WOW! what these fish do!

I THINK TRADITIONALLY NOV. HAS BEEN PRIME TIME, I TAKE OFF THE MONTH TO FISH. BUT WITH THE LAST FEW MILD WINTERS I'VE HAD TO TAKE OFF DEC. AND JAN. I FISH IN OCT. TOO BUT DON'T LIKE OR EQUATE THE WARM WEATHER WITH STEELHEAD FISHING. IF IT'S 70 DEGREES, IT'S NO FUN FOR ME.    GLEN
