Trolling motor repair

I have a Minn Kota Endura Max 55 trolling motor and am getting water in the upper control panel.  Is there any way to stop the water coming in?  I would guess the lower unit is drawing the water in.   Can anyone offer advice?

I just rebuilt my 55# and can tell you if you're drawing water thru the motor housing DON"T put that motor in the water till you change the seals and bearings on the prop shaft and the 2 rubber gaskets on the housing.Almost forgot the gaskets on the screws that hold the housing together. All that being said I don't see how that would push water to the top of the shaft to the control housing, all thats  there is the selection switch for sspeed. The resistors and what not are seaaled in the front of the motor housing.

I took off the top control cover and muddy water ran out.  I don't know if the water has ruined the components in there or not.   Need new brushes and seals.  Where did you get the seals and gaskets at?

When you pulled the top off there should of only been a rotary switch and wires if we're talking about the same Minn Kota Endura 55# motor. The switch I found on Ebay motors under boat parts the gaskets and armator with bearings come from another place. I'll look for my boat folder and see if I kept the slips. I'm sure I did, finding them is another story. If you go on Ebay shop around the deal I found on there let me buy 2 for less then some on there wanted for one.

I pulled the bottom unit apart and there was water in it and the control unit had more water in it.  It had to come up the shaft into there. Need a brush kit.

Did that rebuild solve the problem?

I have the Minn Kota Maxxum 55 not the endura.  My old motor was the endura.

After I redid the bottom my motor runs like new. In you first post you said endura but that doesn't matter. When your done fishing do you leave the motor straight up or lower the head at an angle for trailering cause thats where the water gets to the head. Straight up the water should not get much farther uo the shaft the the water level outside cause theres no pumping action when the motor is running. Northland should still have a gasket kit to redo you bottom or even Minn Kota but somethings only get sold to their repair people

I take the motor off any lay it down in the back of my vehicle.  That is probably how the water got up there.  Anyway, I did find a brush kit from Northland to fit my motor.  I will go that way.
