Catfish 2013

Anyone getting out yet?

Put in a few hours yesterday with short runs and no hook ups.  Got this one about two weeks ago.

Nice catch!  Love the cats that size, a blast to catch and you find them in places you would never expect!
    That one's a beauty!

I usually dont go for cats till the water hits mid fifties and up, when the flathead get more active.   Then I get after them for the majority of my fishing till around archery season.

The channels were kind of active today.  I spent ~9a-noon above the highland park dam and caught 3 between 10:15-11a, all in the 70k water.  Fished slack water, seam and main flow, all fish were caught in the fast water.  None greater than 3#, but all nice looking fish.  Does anyone here eat small cats from the river.  Like a once a year type of deal?  At any rate these looked like good eating cats.

Sorry no pics, battery was dead from the weekend.

I kept one meals worth from below an acoe dam last year. I'd assume they may have made their way up from the river. They were delicious. Come to think of it, they were caught around this time of year, in fast water. On a jig under a float with a piece of cut bait.

Fished it a ton in the 70's with good results with Channel cats. Haven't fished it in the past couple yrs. but targeted Flatheads with some ok results. Been catching a bunch ov nice Channels with artificial baits lately while targeting Stripers at Arthur. The boys mustta caught over 50 Stripers the few time they were out but I'm getting more cats than Byrds

Lock 3, and that general area.  Great cat water.  I may keep one from some better water as you did FishinGuy.

Tried just below Lock 3 and farther down where deer creek dumps in with 4-6" chubs and no luck. Just snag after snag.. I think I am done with that area, tons of people in both spots. Nobody was catching much.
