Penn's Creek - guide or how to fish it

Hello,
I would like to take my son and go to Penn's creek fly fishing. Are there any guides you would suggest? Or, is this a creek you can find places to park and go fishing fairly easy? I have never been out thay way to fish.

I was also wondering - when you hear or read about a stream you would like to fish - how do you go about finding a place to park, fish, etc... I am the type or person who needs to know where I will be parking, which direction to go once I park. Or, do you just go and wing it?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

I've used google maps satellite view to find many parking areas to access good fishing. But I have no input on that specific stream.

I've done the same thing with google maps.  Get a general location and kind of wing it from there.

Recman if you will send me a PM I'll tell you what I know about fishing Penns Creek. I'm no expert but I have fished it a good number of times and can maybe help you out.
If you are simply looking for a guide you CANNOT go wrong with the guys from flyfisherman's paradise. Every experience I've hade with those guys has been a good one.

The Drake here on the board is an excellent guide, not sure if he does Penn's or not.

    Thanks, bings.

I have guided on Penns creek, but over the past few years I've been as busy as I want to be just guiding here on the Little Juniata.

Look up Penns Creek Guides http://www.pennscreekguides.com/
They know the creek as well as anyone and will put you on fish.

The Drake here on the board is an excellent SUCKER guide, not sure if he does Penn's or not.

Actually, if it swims in moving water, The Drake is the guide you want.

Thank you all for the information, it is greatly appreciated.
Since TheDrake was so highly recommended, maybe I should think about going to the Little Juniata since it is closer to home.

TheDrake - would you be interested in guiding a Father & Son fly fishing on the little Juniata? Let me know, please.
    Thank you,
    Recman

I think you'll enjoy fishing the LJ better than fishing Penns. If catching fish is you main objective........good luck

I have never fished with The Drake but have spoken with many who have and I would highly recomend his services. The knowledge and instructions he brings would benefit anyone greatly; even an experienced fisherman. Call him....WF

I know I'm late to the party, but - Penn is a toughie, but worth it. Access is pretty easy. If you're looking to fish great trout water, that general area is outstanding.

For a guide in that area, I've always has great luck with Dennis Charney out of Flyfishers Paradise.

I try to teach him a little something every time we fish together.

Typically how to catch less fish than he does.

But rest assured that I catch the smarter ones.

As we age, its only natural to go for the more intelligent trout. The Drake is too young yet to understand the course we take. I would much rather take 2 very smart trout then 10 fish of regular intelligence....WF....sometimes, though, I would like to catch a stupid one...any one would be nice....no. i'm holdin out for the smart ones

As is typical, the Drake caught more fish than I did last evening, but I caught the dry fly fish, so what I wrote above holds true -- he picks on the intellectually challenged trout while I take the high road.
